With dps I mostly use a 5’ 3/32 cable with a large loop and the other end attached to the swivel. I would then simply loop it around a tree or log or something heavy enough and move on. Could I do the same thing with footholds for pocket sets? Thought I might put a wolf fang on the big loop in case I found a set without anything to tie off to near by.

First time using earth anchors, how deep should they go for K9 or cat sets? 14”? How do they work in water sets if driven into the creek bed, or should they be driven into the bank like rebar?

Thanks

You can do that for regular foot hold sets in the water. Though if you have to use the earth anchor, it better be a long driver as sometimes you may need to push the anchor 2ft or better into the mud before you get the anchor to set.

As for land sets, I drive the anchor down until starts to get to hard to drive. sometimes thats 14 and sometimes less in hard clay.

Cool, I think if I need to use the earth anchor at a water set I will just set it into the bank to get a better hold. Is there a standard minimum you should get the anchor in on land sets?

Not really, if you cant pull the anchor back out without using a puller or vehicle a coyote isnt pulling it out. Unless you have badgers then that changes things a bit.

For water sets I prefer t bar over earth anchors.

For land sets, I prefer the 18" anchor but in many cases the 12" would probably work ok.

Nobody can answer that question but yourself. Anybody telling you 12" is fine without knowing your soil type is off their rocker.

Agreed, I will make them 18” long and if I don’t need the extra I can stuff it down the hole
