I use golf balls, if the golf ball is knocked off and no bait is gone I look for deer tracks… if no deer tracks - I set a dirt hole about 10 yards away.

Golf balls, I took some heavy mono and drilled a hole threw the golf balls and crimped them to the DP to keep them from walking off.

golf balls just sit them on top. Most of the time they will be laying just outside of catch circle. Go to a driving range and by them used. I bought a thousand for $50. Had a few chewed up but very few.

Anything you put on top of the DP is a barrier to the coons too. Just set your DP a little higher (Don't push the stabilizer very far in the ground,) and when the mice do start getting to it, move it 3-5 feet down the trail and that will buy another couple nights most of the time. If you haven't caught the coons by then you're not setting in the right location anyway.

PVC pipe with cap glued on end. Couple of holes drilled in the sides of cap.

I drill a hole thru the golf ball and screw a 1" long dowell to it. Keeps the ball from being knocked off and makes setting easier.

ADC is spot on. You would think simply moving a few feet wouldn't matter, but it usually works. Much easier than screwing around with golf balls.

I zip tie sticks onto the stabilizer about a foot and a half long. This allows me to set the DP in the water just off the shoreline, pushing into the bottom. Tilt it back towards the shore and you've got a mouseproof setup. Keep a bucket of sticks in the boat/truck as you'll often lose 'em.

Works for me.

I do not believe I have troubles using them. Caught skunks, possums, and coons. I do know having to rebait 30 or 40 traps every day is a pain. The mice get the bait out during the day and nothing there for the coon when they come by. In grassland areas such as we have here mice are every where. When I started using golf balls my catch tripled. There are some areas I do not use them such as heavy timber areas close to rivers or creeks. It works for me.
