Just built a few new cubby boxes to try for some bobcats during the MN muzzleloader season up at my hunting ground. Took a lot of my ideas from Gary Meis since he targets 'cats here in MN. Did a couple of tweeks, but I can't argue with his success. Any thoughts guys? Note: I haven't trapped anything since chasing mink, muskrats, and coon back in the 80's, but these bobcat have been tempting me since I bought my ground back in 2000.

Where is the required overhang? Or are they recessed enough to be legal?

I have nothing clever to put here.

They are not recessed enough. The overhang is only required on public land here, but I will be screwing on lighter plywood overhangs on all of them so they can be easily replaced if they get damaged.

It doesn't matter to me I was just trying to keep you from getting an "award". The "Lynx Zone" has a bunch of special regulations too. You said you haven't trapped since the 80's is the only reason I brought it up. I have had by far better luck with snares, cage traps and #3 longsprings than I have with boxes. I quit using them about 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Enjoy chasing kitties.

Thanks 160! I really appreciate the input. I'm not in the "Lynx zone", but I don't want to get any "fun tickets" either. Since I'm about 165 miles from my land, this will only be about a 10 day effort during the muzzeloader deer season. I figured the cubbies would be an easy way to do some quick sets, and a quick pull when I'm done. There are even a few stray Fisher around my place.

That is why I LOVE my cage traps. The fisher seem to arrive the day after season closes. I have released a lot of kittens and several fisher from cages. I snap them when I am done and pick them up (off private land) when it is convenient.

Are you using cages that you bought or are you making your own? I had a past neighbor up north that used to make his own for 'cats, but he moved shortly after I bought, so I didn't get to learn much from him about them.

I bought them from "Cage Maker". Height seems to be the secret for cats, not width. One set I have of 3 all slide inside each other. They are slick!

Will do. Our MN season doesn’t start until Nov 24th for bobcat.
