I picked up this old tool with one of the lifters on the swather. It was in the near vicinity of an old homestead, at least 100 years old. But no one seems to know what it is. This is a close-up of the point. Thanks for any help.

Bushmaster, sorry can't help on what it is but I metal detect a lot of old homesteads and find tons of odd shaped items. I'm convinced that the old timers fashioned a lot of things to meet their needs. Cleaning that stuff out of the farmers fields gets me a lot of permissions.

I think it might work for pulling fence staples.
Moosetrot Well, it failed miserably as a tow hook.

round steel with a square taper if you just need a point why go to the trouble of making it square looks like a stove tool to me.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

It’s a 100 year old colonoscopy tool......

The newly found antique or primitive tool is:
A. A horse hoof / horseshoe pick or scraper.
B. A tool for the first step in “Early Americana” waterboarding.
C. A doctor’s tongue depressor.
D. A rusty needle from a present day flu shot syringe.
E. All of the above.
