I work away from microwaves and electricity, and get so tired of sandwiches and other cold lunches, especially in the winter. Anybody have any favorite foods or ways to carry a hot lunch?

I've tried some insulated containers that worked ok, need to replace them as the seals have gone out, anyone have a recommendation for an easy to eat out of and easy to clean one?

I take soup, chili, or stew in a thermos. Fill the thermos with hot water while you heat up your soup, it keeps the soup/chili hot longer. It makes a nice break from sandwiches.

Classic suggestions gents!

Look into "Haybox" cooking. Modern insulation like Reflectix is light, cheap, easy to clean and works well. Cut to size and shape then use any tape so it stays that way. Also, they make thermoses with very wide mouths these days.

Small, portable camping stoves from DIY alcohol to IsoButane canisters can have hot meals ready to eat in 5-15 minutes. Tons of tips and recipes on backpacking forums.

Stew, chili, other soups.
These all stay hot in a thermos.
I like the hot dog idea someone posted bet you could do that without water too
They make hot packs similar to cold frozen packs that keep heat well.
I used them once to keep lasagna in a container hot...and it worked well. The hot pack on top and bottom of the container inside a small insulated cooler(warmer, in this case).
Also, a Crock-Pot stays hot for a LONG time after it is unplugged, especially the larger ones. Make a batch of something you can share with buddies at lunch.

Barring any accidents, I agree totally with the manifold cooking method. I first learned it eating burritos off of the diesels in a sportfisher in Costa Rica and have since done it on many other engines. Just make sure your sandwich or burrito is well wrapped in quality foil and don't forget to turn it once.

Aside from that, I always found thick soups in a thermos good but more of a hassle to put in and get out. If you take a packet of Lipton French onion soup and use beef or chicken stock instead of the water it is a great start to lunch and then the cold sandwich goes down a lot better.

The heat packs in MREs work really well to warm food.

A small propane torch works well too.

a can of soup doesn't take long to warm up on the dash with the heater cranked!

I run heavy equipment so i know what you mean. I bought a 30 dollar oven from a truckstop thats the size of a lunnch box. It plugs into a cigarette lighter or 12 volt power point. I love it. I have hot lunches evveryday now.

The first I heard of this was from Gene Wensel. Put 4 hotdogs in a wide mouth thermos. Fill it with boiling water. Take some buns, onions, and mustard.

I don't have a job that has me too far from a hot meal. But I do hunt a lot thru lunch and also when I am running an all day all weekend trapline. Years ago I bought a MSR gas stove burner. The kind that folds up , almost fits in your pocket but fits in a small lu

nch cooler for sure. Use it a lot to boil water, heat soup, beef stew, even make a burger or fry pork or chicken strips in a pan. Every now and then I treat myself to a really great tasting lunch or even breakfast from Mountain House freeze dried meals. Kinda pricy but are they good!

I prefer a small propane burner similar to what NebrCatman posted. They’re compact, quick and easy. Don’t have to run the vehicle or hold a torch or anything. All the advice for packing hot food is great, but I’d rather just cook it fresh and fast.

Get you a jet boil system. Once you have a way to boil some water you really open up your options for coffee, food, etc...

I used to take a Hibachi to work and cook steaks etc for lunch. Drove the other guy's crazy!
I also had a small electric coffee pot that 1/2 hr before lunch, I would drop a can of chili into, bring it to a boil then shut it off. worked great

Burros (buritoes) were the way to go in the mining industry. Flour Tortilla: Wrapped properly in AL foil. Easy clean up. Homemade re-fried beans if you got en or get some Rosereita, hatch green chiles, throw in some butter or you can do a scrambled egg thing with chilies and maybe some bacon. You can get fancy with elk/deer crock pot with green chili then wrapped in tortilla. The burro originated by the Mexicans in the mining industry back in the 1800's in Bisbee AZ. Good cold or hot. Make them up on the weekend and load the freezer then take out as needed. You can heat them in the sun also. Green chilis are a must. Best Refries are made with bacon grease. Then there is always tamales, home made is best. Garlic powder and onion to taste. Beans are good for your diet.

Make sure to poke a vent hole in it or you'll have Beans & Weenies all over the engine compartment!
