There is no European market to speak of. European women are brainwashed by animal rights. Even most farmers in Europe live in town. They travel out to the farm to work rather than live on them. Scandinavians have fur farms everywhere. They are not interested in our wild fur to much. The English are subjects. Free speech free press and self defense are crimes. Law enforcement can enter and search private homes at will. How much fur do you think they will buy?
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

What plan to dominate the European market? No such thing. If your talking about keeping the European market open to Canadian fur, that is a win,and you still benefit from it by using the Canadian auction as a back door. Fixed that for you. Unless China cuts the existing tariff against all fur imports, how does Canadian fur benefit price wise if they pay less for ours?

NAFA, the ranch mink company, has receiving depots in both places. When 95% or better of your business is ranch mink, I don't even know why they bother with wild fur.

I am in the center of the state of Ohio and this will be my 71st year trapping
My suggestion for your location would be to contact any taxidermist in a 50 mile radius of you
see what they might be interested in buying and try and fill their requests. That way you don't have to skin and stretch, because most of them want to that themselves. If you go for coon you want the 18 to 20 pounders (don't go much larger than that in Ohio). You want to get the silver-backs
no one wants the wooly yellow bellies. I usually wait until Thanksgiving to start on the coon, that way very few blue ones. Last year No.1 buck mink were going for 8 to 10 bucks
I sold one to a Taxidermist for $35 and all I had to do was drive about 20 miles. Your area should produce some nice rats
XXX rats could go to $4.50 or maybe even $5. Your December fox might do good if the reds are long furred cherry red throughout with white tail tip. They don't seem interested if they have grayish hind quarters. The price on Grays seem to be jumping around, but what ever, they need to be prime furred. Any drastic off colored catch is a prime market for the taxidermy trade. Make you contacts before the season starts.
I am getting along in years and don't get around very well some days
so I stick with the easy ones, rats, mink and an occasional coon. Good luck with your season. Work smart not hard.

I dont remember all the details but when a whole bunch of fur was caught being smuggled into China 3 or 4 years ago ( to avoid tariffs), isnt that when the bottom dropped out?

Nafa may need all the wild fur it can get if there is a lot of upcoming peltouts. Nafa could easily lose half the ranch mink in one year.

Ever since the crash NAFA has gone from selling about 3 million ranch mink to 10 million. Half of ten is still 5 million. I wonder if they even move a million wild pelts these days and most of those would sell at less than $10 a pelt.

I can tell you that paying $100 per unit (area) to trap rats on a Federal refuge is a losing proposition. I can cut firewood there for free though. Firewood may be my target species this year.

Nafa has invested to be a big company when dealing with ranch mink. They are lucky that ALC went broke.
