Well it's about that time of year to put the poles away. I leave mine in the garage all summer. I suppose the sun is hard on line. How often do you suppose a person should change line?

3 years/when there isn't enough anymore. As long as they are out of the sun it shouldn't deteriorate.

Put the poles away?
The best month of the year for fishing is November!!
No bugs, less idiots out fishing and lots of hungry active fish.
I fish till ice forces me to put away my poles.

I fish year round unless it's below 40 with a 20+ mph wind.

Depends on the line. Braids like power pro don't degrade from uv like mono.

I am using power pro now on a few rods, and while, yes it was expensive, a buddy of mine says six or more years is no problem. A 300 yrd spool is expensive, but I only use 100 yards on the spool, as I can't cast that far anyway. Just put some stout mono on the reel as a backer first. The line at the end gets worn faster, as it takes abuse from fighting fish, and the abrasion of rod guides when casting. The plan is to turn the line around in four or five years, so let's say eight years out of 100 yards. Then I can respool with another 100 yards... I don't mind shelling out 50 or more bucks for power pro because it should last me literally twenty years or more.

So far loving the stuff. I run a 20 lb fluorocarbon leader, and so far the stuff casts like a dream and I have yanked up parts of trees when snagged.
