Trapped 8 out of the 9 hogs I was after! #6332034

Made my trap a couple months ago and was able to trap 1 big boar. After that bears were so bad that they kept eating my bait so I took a break. The bears have headed back up high after acorns and I had a sounder of 9 pigs on camera all last week. Set the trap this weekend and was able to catch all 8 of the juveniles and only missed the big Sow. I guess she was a little too wise to enter the trap.

Nice work! How exactly do you trap them in there? I have heard that some are good for eating and others not so much. What do you do with them?

It's all in how you cook them. I take the hams and cut them into 2 to 3 pound hunks and put them in the insta-pot or crock pot for a few hours. The meat just falls apart and makes some great BBQ sandwiches. I take the back straps and slice them for some pork chops. I've sent one of these to an actually processor for them to make me some sausage. Here is a video I made when I first built this trap. I'll be posting another vid in a day or two showing these pigs I trapped as well.

Good job! It's very satisfying when a plan comes together.

Beware, a larger hog can go over the top. They can jump higher than you would think and/or climb out. Small pigs can go thru the large holes in the panels.

Will do. I'll put the trailcam pix in as well if they show anything worth learning from.

I have some heavy duty chain link fence that's about 3' tall that I'm going to add that should eliminate losing the smaller pigs. These panels are as tall as I can get. If one jumps out, I'll just have to lose that one unfortunately. And yes, it was very satisfying to take this large of a group out. Hopefully I can get them a bit under control on my property. I'm guessing I have around 30 pigs total in different groups so this catch should help a lot.

I cant speak for other parts of the world but those peanut fattened Georgia pigs are very good table fare! We killed 29 and brought home 8 dry gilts then wished I had brought every single one home! The pork chops are tiny! But IMHO better than any tame one ive ate! If I go again im bring home a few 30-40 lb ones to smoke whole. Funny but you think pork you think greasy quite the opposite dry and very lean! So much so id think a brine cure would be required to make hams cure right! BY the way good job hick town! Georgia is infested with pigs no doubt!

I enjoyed trapping hogs for awhile but after months and months and no end in sight it really got old. We caught 22 in one trap one night. We set it up with two doors, propped open for two weeks with a camera on the trap. After we were sure the entire sounder was comfortable with the trap we set the doors and caught them all. When you walk up on a trap with lots of hogs that sure does turn into chaos in short order. That many hogs banging into the panels will tear down a trap, have to shoot fast to save the trap.
