Well I have been going over gear and getting organized for the fast approaching fall and winter seasons. Last year I made a major upgrade in lighting on my gun and a hand light. Went with Wicked Lights 3 color internally switchable LED lights. And also upgraded to a Foxpro Fusion with the TX1000 programmable remote.

So this year I want to upgrade the situation with shooting sticks, bipods, and tripods. I have been using various types of single leg shooting sticks with better success than bipod type shooting sticks. They are faster to setup and move, but not nearly as steady. I have used a bipod which was clumsy. Also on a long night of calling, I get tired holding or propping the gun up at the ready and trying to not move, and then moving for the shot. So, I really want to improve my setup.

So what do you experts use for good quality bipods or tripods? Do you prefer two legs or three? Why? What do you use and recommend? And why?

Thanks for any suggestions, including if you have a seriously good hunting situation and your regular buddy ran off with somebody’s wife, or whatever. Best wishes.

Personally I like a Harris notched leg bipod, but that is for callingmopen country and shooting prone, it sounds like for your style of calling a night stalker tripod with either a pig saddle or reaper mount would be the ticket, although not cheap they are very nice setups.

used a harris for professional predator work in s.d. then actually made my own shooting stix from dowels and gave up the harris. In my calling areas I usually set up against a fencerow or similar,so the taller bi pod(shooting stix) works well.

I use bog pod tripod, can be adjusted to use while sitting or standing and since it's a tripod it doesn't fall over if you need to lift your gun off of it. I've had critters come in where I ended up taking a rest off one leg of the tripod instead of the yoke when I wasn't positioned just right. On glare ice the legs will slide out on you, a tether between the legs or sharp tips on the feet would fix that. The twist lock for height adjustments is quiet but sometimes temperamental in real cold weather - I think I would of preferred a cam lock version which I think they have available now.

I use an ole stoney point pole cat tripod with the rear stock brace. Now I'm thinking hard on adding a Hog saddle to my spotting scope tripod especially when using the thermal toped AR it weighs in around sixteen pounds. I have a Vanguard Alto but would love a Mafroto corona with a fluid head.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I like the short Stoney point hinged bipod for turkey hunting. The tall Primos trigger stick is good for hiking and deer gun hunting. I have Harris medium bipoda and don’t like them because no pivot.

I will check out your suggestions.
