I don't use the raw gum in formulation. I tincture it and use the tincture in formulation.

I've used both, but stick to tincture. The powder is just as good depending on where you get it from, both smell "FANTASTIC" in tincture form. jmo

I make a tincture from the gum, I mix a small amount in some of my canine lure I make. You can buy the gum from Wildlife Control Supplies in Connecticut. I tincture it in grain alcohol 190 proof.

How long do you let the tincture work? 6 weeks or so?

I use two tincturing agents. For my water base lures, I use the tincture of 8 ounces of asafetida gum to one gallon of 100 proof vodka. For my oil based lures I use the tincture of 8 ounces of asafetida gum to one gallon of diethyl phthalate. I let the parent material stay in the tincturing agent for 2 - 3 months and shaking it up weekly for the first 6 weeks.

A couple months at least, pour off the tincture and add more alcohol. The gum will hardly of started to dissolve you can keep rendering it. I use a 4 oz. jar put a piece of gum about the size of a big acorn and just enough alcohol to cover it. Put in a cool dark area. I keep mine in the cellar. The tincture will turn light amber color and smell kinda like garlic. This is how I do it and seems to work good. I’m sure there are different approaches to it. DO NOT use too much in your lure. A very small amount will go ALONG way. Hope this helps.
