I have some friends that have 10,000 acres leased in northeast Kentucky, and they kill 140"-155" deer every year. They are always looking to get a couple more guys on the lease at $1500/person. They all go up and camp for rifle season and usually everyone gets a nice buck. I went for a couple years before I got the farm in Illinois. Good hunting for the money but its rough mountain land with no fields or agriculture. They only take 10 people on the lease so its not over crowded

I'm from Vestaburg, Michigan. Roughly the center of the mitten. Thanks. Your hunt is out a few years but I would start with Iowa. Good luck!

North Western Kansas would be a good area to look...I know of some locals that head there every year and do quite well during the post rut around thanksgiving, archery season....basically they wait for harvesting of crops, once down not many areas for them to hide except in the thick brushy draws or watersheds....I haven't made it out there yet but it would be my first choice....
If your a DIY type hunter you can get plenty of hunts in for cheap, may take a couple seasons to round up a few farms, the locals started out hunting walk on property and did quite well, after out there they added to their hunting property...
Just a thought....
If you think you might try and do a DIY type hunt in the near future make sure you get a couple preference points so when you want to go you get a draw....
If your a decent hunter I see no reason to hire a guide to hunt whitetail...I've fallen on my face several times chasing whitetails out of state on DIY hunts but I'd never wish I would have hired a guide....just my own opinion....
Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes...... Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

We don’t need to go down that road again, there’s trophy hunters and meat hunters. To each their own, the challenge is in trophy bucks why would anyone go to another state to shoot a doe?

Hickory creek outfitters in southeast kansas. I mount several deer for them each year. They are great people and kill big deer.
