I was thinking, how do you get them out! That's a lot of mad snappers to be sticking your hands by.

We used to have a catch limit here of 2 per day. Then some greenie biologists told the MNRF that they were endangered and couldnt sustain a harvest. Issue is, I have never heard of anyone here even trying to catch any, and most people didn't even know they were harvestable here. And just when I want to go and try, they outlaw it...

They must have collaborated with the MN DNR. Outlawing any harvest will probably be on the MN DNR agenda soon.

Most in this country have things people in other countries only dream about. Yet, they want America to be more like those other countries.

I net the turtles out of the spring houses and then throw them in the truck cap side door. I have to bolt the tailgate and other cap doors shut before loading as the snappers will pack and push themselves down to the point where they will actually spread the truck body wide enough that the tailgate will pop open! To unload we unbolt the tailgate and grab them by the tail. Having been in the cold spring water they move a little slower, but can bite just as hard.
The market price is way down from 6 or 8 years ago but fortunately my buyer still takes them at a price where I can make a profit.
I have stated on other posts that I am blessed with a wife (former city girl at that) who takes it all in stride, my waking up at 4 AM, coming home at 10PM, stinking like sour fish and turtle poop. She washes my clothes with a smile on her face and sends me out the next day to do it again.

Sounds fun, lol, you are a lucky man, mine avoids everything outdoors, doesn't want me to hunt or trap

Eric To do what we do it requires someone that at least tolerates it . I do not always get the smile and often I am going before she is awake to sent me off . But we have shared the same house for 40 years so I guess she knows it is what it is . Again thanks for a glimpse of how you do your turtle trapping . You have some interesting info even for someone that just wants to get a few for their own use

There is absolutely no reason, scientifically to limit turtle harvesting Minnesota!

jk, I no longer sell snares/videos and have not done demos in a while, other than last year I went to Minktoberfest for a day. Will not be there this year as we are taking a long western vacation and then returning by 9/28 for my father's 90 birthday bash. We are going to stop at the Ohio convention for a day (Saturday).
My grandson turns 12 today and he is going to Williamsport (jk's home town)tomorrow to watch the games. He has played all up and down the east coast on different teams but his team did not make it to the Little League World Series. Because they changed the age dates he will not be eligible to play Little League next year even though he will only be 12.

Really depends on where you are in Mn.
