Put tens of thousands of rounds down range with and old 54 back when I shot Jr. Olympic and NCAA rifle. They are wonderful rifles. What powah scope did you have mounted on it ?

Bought 1st one in 1984 for smallbore silhouette. Back then was shooting 10-15,000 rds/yr. Still shoots as well as test target that came with it! Model was 54.18MSL. ONE of first left handers that landed in USA. Has to have over 100,000 thru it.

I've never shot an anschutz and I'm not trying to start an argument or a peeing match I'm going to ask an honest question! I've shot Remington, Ruger and CZ's all my life, were VERY serious rifle squirrel hunters so accuracy is a must I don't hunt with my rifle unless it will cut the same hole, out too 50 yards I've killed squrrels at 100 and off course groundhogs and crows the same, I've got a buddy who did have a anschutz back in the 90s I never shot it but he didn't seem that impressed and traded it off went back to his old rifle, I've got a 125 dollar marlin bolt action I can cut a single hole 5 shot group with at 50 yards with out that much skill needed, I shoot a CZ witch is currently my favorite and like wise will cut the same hole, now target shooting aside how much better does it get for hunting, I commonly limit on squrrels head shot and 2 missed is a lot under field condition I feel my rifle will shoot with eny, please guys don't get mad and start hollering at me I realize target matches are different, my cz with a good scope on a rest is capable of busting a squrrels head at 100 are they really that much better. I mean consistent same hole groups are all the same right! Again just wanting some open dialog please don't make me out the bad guy everybody is intitled to there opinion I'm just wondering ! Colt

Colt Confidence in your equipment builds confidence in your abilities, and with the results you have had, well I would say you have plenty in both categories. Shooting is 99% mental !! RTT

Kyt, didn't mean too sound like that was the standard I only get a shot or 2 like that a season and only try them on bad day (usually in big timber) and I miss um sometimes only saying the gun will do it if I do my part. Most of the time I slip in as close as I can cause I like eating squrrels more than trying to pull off a long shot. I'll only try a long shot like that late in the morning when there headed out or if it's one of them days were there creeping around and spooky

Since you brought up CZ rifles...I shot two squirrels in a bean field in the head - both at 247 yds with my CZ and Remington subsonics off my front porch. It took two shots to figure the drop but after that both heads shots. This was off a table with sandbags.
I had an old an Anchutz when I was young and always wanted one= I like the looks of the 54 - just never had the money. I don't know if I could shoot much better with it?
Just passin through

Dang Larry, that has to be world record. I use rem subsonics. What did you do, shoot, go get an iced tea and sit down before the bullet hit? I think there was some skill, Ky. windage, and whole lotta luck there.
Redsleeves, understand what you mean. As you know, accuracy is only one factor in making a good squirrel rifle. And all squirrel hunting is different based on the conditions you are hunting in, what type squirrels they are etc. Hunting them in Ky. alone is different based on what part you hunt in. I've hunted in the bluegrass section in farmland with little groves of trees here and there. Find a big beech or oak with holes in it, sit down 20 yards away before daylight and get your limit before 8 oclock. Some or all may be fox squirrels, which seem big as house cats compared to a gray squirrel. Then go to the eastern end of the state, 2 counties from West Virginia:Much tougher hunting. The world is turned on its edge. The timber is thick. Once in a while you get a glimpse of your feet or patches of sky through the trees.
Go even farther east and the timber is much taller, the terrain much steeper, and just scotching yourself on a hillside so you don't slide into the creek is an accomplishment. Squirrels overhead are harder to hit because the limb they are on is between you and them. The glare of sky above and low light under the canopy also complicates just seeing them. Besides accuracy, light weight, manuverablity, and a good trigger and sighting system is important. Whatever works for you, I think boot leather has killed more squirrels than anything else.
