When my father passed I was left darn near a set of 1962 baseball cards. I do not collect them he didn’t know he had them probably. Bought game he was ten and put them in a box best I can figure. For anyone that knows is it more worth it to buy the remaining and say I have a set in various conditions? Or do you sell (where I don’t know) all but the most expensive ones by cases get them graded and then bury them in the gun safe? Thanks

Well a set in great condition can get $7500 so your choice. Some cards especially around that time can fetch good money by themselves. If course condition and rarity are important.

Looks like they printed different series that year & there's some with errors & misprint

The baseball card market went down the crapper. I have a whole room full of cards that will be worth more if i burn them to heat my house.
Serious collectors want graded cards, if its not graded, they really break it off in you.
The graders often want a percentage of the value of the card. (see: breaking it off in you)
Crooks everywhere. "your stuff is junk, i have a ton of these, nobody wants this guy, etc, is often followed by, "I can only give you a few bucks.'
Unless they take up too much space, i say sit on them until the market comes round. Kinda like coons.

I will gladly feast on those who would subdue me.

Depends on how complete your set is. Probably going to be around 600 cards for that era. If your a few common cards short, you could try to buy the missing ones. If your missing the high dollar ones, your gonna be hurting trying to complete the set.

Pretty sad what has happened to the sports card market. It used to be fairly simple and a ton of fun. When I was a kid I can remember going to shows and having a blast looking at cards and trading with the dealers. You never knew what you were going to pull out of a regular wax pack either.

A long story, but I have many old baseball cards and comic books in pristine condition. The have not been high graded. I will trade them all for a new F-350 crewcab diesel.

Amen. Wax packs were a blast to open and they were cheap.

The gum sucked though lol.

Last year i bought a box of baseball cards at a garage sale for $10
I knew nothing about them at all. They were 1960`s. I put them on Ebay
one at a time and made over $1200 on them. Now I keep my open for them.

I collected as a kid in the early 70's. Packs were .10 each, I'd find pop bottles in fields and woods worth .10. I kinda got back into it in late 80's-90's. Anyway I never really had my collection organized in any way. My 22 year old son never really got into them at all as when he was a kid they were over $5.00 a pack. I had no sentimental value to them and I am building my dream/retirement cabin. I asked my son if he wanted them or for me to sell and put $$ into cabin which he'll get someday and sold they were. I ended up getting $4500 for them and would have been thrilled for $2500. I'm pretty sure I did well on them for the timing of things.

My worst trade still haunts me.

Topps had large NFL cards back then. I did a one for one trade, a Johnny Unitas for a Joe Namath. The shame has never left me. lol

When we lived in Philly 1965 ..I was in 4th grade...and that’s what we did at recess ....pitch cards ! Had shoe boxes full. Remember playing that game where you leaned a card against the wall...and the first guy to knock it down ,won all the cards on the ground . Then another game was tops.....if your card landed on the other guys card ,you also won that pile. When we moved from Philly....no other school played cards....

I hear you, back in the day when I was dating my wife I took one of four rookie Walter Paytons to a show and sold it for $14.00, I was tickeled as we went and had dinner with it (25 years ago) it is worth $150 today and climbed higher before the drop. I also have (had) Lew Alcindors RC that was worth $130 years ago, when I sold it was down to $45.

Ouch!

Still have my football card collection from the 70s. Does anyone remember beer can collections? That was pretty big back in the day too.

Show us a pic of some cards so we can see what some look like is it a master set ( do some have a green tint)I'm guessing in vg to ex condition your talking 5 to 7 k a regular set is cheaper but still good money , cards 523-598 are very hard to get , do you have #99 , #199, #387 it may be worth buying cards to make the set your talking 12 to over 20k in near mint and if you have the master set , hard core collectors pay big bucks I just ordered some cards to finish a couple sets , if you buy cards I would buy from a site or someone you trust with condition what I say is ex someone else may say is vg-ex or ex-mint. I do collect if you want to sell part or just the money cards (star players) I maybe interested. And Mainer I still have billy beer also nhis coke bottles. And I'm looking for 69 and 71 topps fb cards.

All my cards ended up in he spokes of all the neighborhood bikes. Hard to say what all got chewed up value wise but the sound was priceless.

the 62 Topps set is very hard to collect in any type real good condition, because the paper they used that year was of very low quality. They were also many off center cards, and cards that had boarders that were not square, or even. Most collectors that have a 62 set put together spend the rest of their lives upgrading cards within the set. Good luck
