Ok so I am wondering what do I need to use to anchor a 330 for beavers. Do I use a cable and some heavy trapping wire to wire the cable to a tree or use a stake and cable or a cable and a stake or a chain and stake??

Thanks

I prefer cable. I use the cable to wrap up the springs to the jaws. I attached a longliner clip for securing the cable. I use about 10 feet of cable.

Ok I was thinking that chain and swivels would last longer than cable if the beaver flops a little it might fray the cable after a while and get all twisted up

I use 1/8" cable on my 330s-swivels on each end and midline also.

11 ga wire on all mine.
I use strong traps and have changed out some weaker springs on my 30 year old retired BMI's for nuisance work.

Those are my next buy as far as stabilizers go. I have stocked up and have several dozen Kb stabilizers. Those things are great too.

I run stock trap chain, box swivel, then 6 feet of 3/32nd cable. I am changing the 3/32" out to 1/8th as they need replacing. I use a lot of T bar stakes for staking.

Using 30" T stakes with six feet of cable is the best thing that happened to my bodygrip trapping for beavers. I use 3/32" now but am converting to 1/8" 7x19 as they need replacing.

Can always toss in a mid length swivel to your cable (or chain) if you're worried about kinking. Otter more the culprit for that...not so much beaver.

I added a mid cable swivel on all of mine.

I usually use 18 inchers to stake the bodygrip unless I am staking in deep water or muck. We have a lot of steep bank creeks and canals so I use an extension on those locations lots of times to get to the high bank. That let's me check the trap even if a flush of water comes and my traps are flooded out.

All right I will look to cable and I don't know how strong the springs are I'm buying them from garman off the trap shed I don't know how old they are. I saw the sleepy creek setters and they just looked nicer then the steel flat bar ones that don't have grips or the cuts in them for long springs. I know that you don't wax body grips. But should I paint them or dye them??

6' of 3/32 or 1/8 cable here with a swivel at the trap, 3" loop at each end, then go around tree, running 1 loop thru the other, then quick snap onto trap, NONE are permanently attached, because I found that I may need to set the trap a certain way in relation to the anchor.

I want them to flop outa the way/trail

And yes, I paint my body grips with a 60-40 mix of Acetone/Rustoleum

Did you check Garman's for Feedback?

Take the trap chain that comes the traps and place it through the spring eye, attach the ends with a swivel. use 1/8 inch cable attached to the swivel with a snap on the other end. when you make a set you wrap the cable around a tree or root and use the snap to attach the cable to the tree. I use 6 foot of cable with extensions handy when needed.
