Joe, I killed a lot of yotes with that 80 grain boat tail, and a side shot was an easy sew with three little flaps. Shoot them in the throat, coming straight in, and it felt like a bag of water with no exit. I chose that bullit because the gun liked it, not because I did, initially. I would work up some rounds and see what shoots the best in your gun. Good to see you came home for a change!

Those loads I started with were quite a bit different by comparison. That's been thirty years ago or more, and I don't remember what all the loads were but started with a half dozen different combos, and on paper, this turned the old 788 into a tack driver! I killed yotes from three feet out to 400 with it with that load, also let the air out of a few deer and goats with it.

Joe, I had a friend that shot a 60gr hp out of a 6mm Rem and he said he got no exit on a lot of coyotes. I think they were Sierra bullets.
I shoot a 75 gr Sierra HP out of my 25-06 and with have no exit at 100 yards broadside if I hit them in the center of the ribs. If I hit them high or low it is a wreck. I have made bad hit and had it drop them on the spot where it should have been a tracking job. It kills a coyote about as dead as anything I have ever seen.
I like a light bullet that comes apart and stays inside. They just drop when hit. There is no advantage to a exit hole on anything if you can drop it where it stands.

Joe -

I agree if you already have a .22-250 dialed in with a 50-55grain bullet - you'd be advantage ahead to move up larger with the .243. I had read an article before and believe it stated ballistically the cartridge performed best with an 87-95 grain bullet. This realized its potential. I was thinking the Hornady SST or FTX and a Berger bullet had some of the best numbers for the .243 but do not rule out the Sierras as well. Sierra is made right here in Sedalia MO and dont hesitate to pick up the phone and give them a call - they have a tunnel underground where they definitely test out there bullets.

I’ve been shooting a .243 out of a Mod. 70 Winchester for years . Without a doubt it’s a very versatile cartridge, 55gr. up to what 110 gr. . That covers a lot of critters but my rifle did not like the 58 gr. ballistic tips , they seemed to scatter somewhat ! It shoots 65 gr. ballistic tip and 39 g. of Varget very well ! I’ve had very good groupings with 75 gr. Federal and 80 gr. Rem. and both of these handled the wind pretty good.

When it comes to fur damage , I’ve yet to have an exit with the 65gr. Ballistic tip ! ! The 75 and 80 gr. Ballistic tips have both made marginal messes but nothing you couldn’t fix on a $20 coyote if you wanted to, lol . I’ve only seen a couple of coyote shot with the 100gr. Soft point, neither of them was salvageable with my sewing skills .

My friend has used the 65 vmax out of his 700 remington for years. Turns their insides to jello.

For a " fur bullet", you ain't gonna find an ideal one in a .243!
Been searching for years.
Overall, the best has been ones designed for deer which are the heavier constructive ones.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

i really like a the nosler 55gr, at 4275fps for precision shooting, center of the chest or you'll have a mess, but i can shoot a barrell out in 600 rds with that combo done it twice now.
or 110 gr sierras

There is no try or try not, only a coyote in the trap or not.
