I was wedged in to a gas station sign 20' high with a 4" grinder and a cutting wheel. The grinder jumped and cut through both my shirts that was pulled tight but did not touch my skin.

I don't think what you did is uncommon. I have two buddies that did the same thing and I've done in myself. Weird thing is, in all these cases the jeans are cut clean through and not a scratch on the skin.

Back when the blade kept spinning at idle they would often grab the smaller brush and come back at you snagging the pants! It's a funny feeling knowing how close that really had to be.

Had 9" hand grinder bind jump out of my very strong hands, blade hit me like a hammer above my left eye, dropped down still spinning and ripped my shirt, left a white scar on the ground skin, 32 years later scar is still the same Left eye was blurry for about an hour after it hit my head

I've done that twice... ripped a pair of jeans and a pair of bibs with the saw.
The first time was my jeans. It was cold, cold, cold out. I was making a cut and noticed my left leg could feel the breeze really well. Looked down and I had a hole torn in my jeans about 5 inches above my knee... Didn't break the skin at all. I shut the saw off and heard a beep. My phone battery was dying and I was out there alone and a long way from help.
I packed it in and went home. After that I don't cut by myself if I'm more than shouting distance from help.

I have done it a few times. I still have a pair of long johns that have the cut and wear them yet to this day. When that happened it never even took a leg hair either. I think about it often when I'm running a saw how luck I was .

Been there done that. Even got a t-shirt. In all seriousness guys never run a chainsaw without chainsaw chaps. My job has me using and running chainsaws everyday and one day I was gonna cut a small tree so I grabbed a saw and before I could react the saw kicked back on me and cut me on the leg in 3 places. A little over 100 stitches to get me sewed back up. Just be careful is all I’m saying I suppose I should look into buying a pair of two. They aren't cheap but should be pennies on the dollar compared to an ER visit and missed work. Mike

I once put two cuts in a pair of jeans like that, on my inner thigh, less than an inch apart, in about 20 minutes, with a chainsaw, without touching my skin. I think one of the teeth barely snags the jeans and pulls them away from your body. Then the fabric continues to be pulled into the other teeth on the blade.
Keith Makes sense.

Well I know why. You are probably like me and when it comes fall or winter time you co not want to be cutting wood or burning green wood. Plus you like to warm in cold weather. Us working class never have it easy.

Like you said that’s pennies compared to a ER visit.

I was snaring beaver on a river and didn't want to choot'em and draw attention, so I tapped them on the nose and stood on'em until they quit wigglin. Lost my footing and got a foot in front of one. Bit through my waders and sock, missed my foot...
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

is smile about it. Cutting wood while ago and had the chainsaw jump back and cut the upper part of my blue jeans wide open. Didn't even cut a leg hair. Reckon all one can do is smile about it and thank God and keep going.
And before any one ask why I was cutting fire wood in Alabama in July I have know ideal why I was. Just seem like a good ideal at the time. Buy some good chaps! I never wore them because I just cut firewood, I'm not a logger. A neighbor who had a degree in forestry and cut lots of firewood anytime he had the chance would not cut anything without putting his chaps on first talked me into getting a pair. It paid off for me big time about a year later. I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't had mine on that day. I had been cutting fire wood without a problem for over thirty years. Those chaps may have saved my life. You got away with one. I'd take that as a warning. BTW, they also keep your pants a lot cleaner.
