Unfortunately a guy hit a doe today while mowing hay and the fawn was okay, so now I have 2, the new one looks to be just a day or two old and doesn't want to take a bottle. Any suggestions to help him take the bottle better

If it's like goat kids, if it recently nursed on it's mother, it may take up to 12 hours before it will be hungry enough to take a bottle.

It was found this morning, and it looks weak and skinny compared to the other one. Figured I'd wait a bit and try again maybe he'll be hungrier

I worked on a deer breeding ranch when I was in college, and we bottle fed and raised around 200 fawns that summer.

I got the little buck fawn to take a few oz a minute ago, the little doe sucks the bottle down so fast you'd think she's 400lb beer drinker, maybe the little buck just hasn't got hungry enough yet

This little girl became friendly last summer as a fawn. She began coming to our goose / chicken feed and bird feed area. Over time she would come close out of curiosity I assume but would keep her distance. I never tried to make contact with her, but her mom would not come near me but she kept an eye on her.

She is still somewhat curious and comes out of the woods in the morning and evening when she hears me out doing things. She is going to have her first fawns this summer if she hasn't already. Interesting to observe her closely but she is still very cautious and alert to her surroundings. The flies are beginning to bother the deer aggressively here now.

She doesn't fear the dogs to much, they run and bark at her as always but she just runs off a bit and stands there, then they run back to the house.

My little buck fawn has started to really eat well and started getting around a lot better. He'll catch up to the little doe soon.

These babies are a lot of work but enjoyable too

You are correct beav, its illegal to raise them here unless special permitting. I'm volunteering for a wildlife rehabilitation center to raise these guys for them

Yeah, illegal here also.

I’m glad you are doing the rehab and volunteering. Could probably learn a lot about their behavior by raising them.

Yea Delaware, they are amazing animals. One thing I've definitely learned is that they're a lot of work. Just done the 1am feeding and have to do it again at 6

I'm glad there are those trappers that can legally do this. But If I found an abandon fawn and carried it home I would be In violation. Not to many abandon fawns end up In ones back yard on their own.

Update on the fawns I'm raising, the little doe has done great and is now picking a lot of natural browse, the little buck got the scours and I was afraid I was going to lose him but I gave him some keaopectate and Pedialyte for a 24 he period and now he's doing great and about to catch up to the doe fawn. They have been a lot of work but the kids have really enjoyed them

Thanks for the update.

How large of a pen do you need for them?

illegal here too. hard as it is to let them die it is probably for the best.

I built a 60x45 outdoor pen with a 20×16 indoor stall the can come in and out of, I will probably keep them for another 3 months before releasing them into the local golf course community where there's a 4,000 acre sanctuary. I get them out every evening for 30 mins or so and let them run loose on the farm then put them back up. They are getting to where they want to wander further away from me every day
