A doctor friend of mine told me he got the hots for buying a travel trailer at one point in his life. He and some of his doctor friends made an annual fishing trip to Canada so he offered to rent one for the trip if they would pay gas. Offer accepted, trip made. My doctor friend said it cured him of wanting a travel trailer.

Regardless, my suggestion about renting is more about the cost effectiveness of rent vs purchase. I bet the annual depreciation is greater than the annual rental unless you have a really long rental period.

I own two at the present time. There's NO way Id finance one for that long.....it will be basically worth nothing by the time you have it payed off ! They drop value quicker than a new car.

You'd be crazy to sign up for 12 years of payments for a camper. As a rule, financing toys is a bad idea.

We but a used KZ Durango 5th wheel 2 years ago, it was the best thing that we've done in a long time. I would look for a newer used one in excellent condition if it was me. It's true they do depreciate quickly off the lot. I would let someone else take the hit. My most useful advise to you is SHOP SHOP SHOP around before you make a decision.

We rented for a few yrs first...1 week at a time for several trips.
This taught us what our needs were, and were NOT...and kept us from buying MORE camper than necessary.
We also went to the camper shows at Greensboro Coliseum a few yrs to step into MANY campers in a day from DIFFERENT dealers.
Got a "show special" marked down from $17k to $13k and had them throw in electric jack, 3 nights free camping, and that stabilization system with the extra bars going from your truck to camper...A MUST HAVE!

Sold it after 2 yrs and broke even then bought current 5th wheel USED, 35 ft for $12k, 8 yrs old.

We NEVER finance more than 50%.

If you can't put 1/2 down, rent until you save enough.

Renting first was an immense help...even after asking questions at www.irv2.com where ALL RVers should go.

Yep..Just came off of the "Airstream" website..I can see 5 year and up financing easily on their trailers. It doesn't take much to look at a 100,000.00 trailer. More than I paid for my first house..LOL

Lance makes a Cadillac but you’ll pay dearly for it
I have a 2018 Winnebago Towable. I’d say it’s well above average in terms of well built and the price was reasonable. I use the heck out of it

Brother-In-Law was looking at a $60,000 camper. Went back several times in one day to look again. Dealer finally gave him a good-guy deal he couldn't pass up. Sold it to him for $45,000 and financed it for him for 15 years!!! What a good guy! Pencil that out.........:D

I wonder if a guy could put enough Jack Daniels in the water system to make wintertime camping practical (and enjoyably).

I'll probably be looking next year myself. I have a 20' Pioneer I tow around East of the Mississippi to live in while I'm working. It's paid for itself many times over now but I need to move on and get something bigger with a slide. I just spent 3 months in mine and it's just to small for something like that. Mine is getting worn but It's still a good trailer. No rot that I know about anyway. Whoever buys it can probably get another 10 years or more out of it with some TLC. The biggest thing about keeping a trailer is preventive maintenance. Keep up on things and it should last awhile.

I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

Have bought 3 new campers over the last 15 years. Financed them for 5 years and paid each off early. Match camper to your tow vehicle. Remember you have to stop it as well as pull it. I liked having a warranty, especially if your fridge goes out. We camp at least 50 nights a year, have 4 others we camp with. Have a good time. We now have a 34ft fifth wheel with 2 slides. Look forward to camping every year.

5th wheel you have to have a 3/4 ton, and these days it's gotta be a diesel. Todays' diesels have to be deleted to be dependable. Friend of mine had to work on a diesel in a firetruck that went limp mode on the way to a fire. Ain't it great..gubmint knows what's best.
