Hey all, just kinda wondering how many here leave some of their trapping related stuff in the field from year to year. Like drowning set weights, slide rods, cubbys made from mesh or wire, visual items (white rocks, etc) or even their super stakes or anchoring systems in the ground. I trap year after year and usually just about in the same spots as those spots are proven thru the years. I'll leave stuff like white rocks, or heavy steel weights for drowning sets under a tree or brush pile, a short distance from where I'll use them. I know an older trapper who leaves all his weights near his beaver areas. I never had a problem with someone taking stuff. Comments?

I use to just stand up my re bar drowning rods and secure them to trees. I'm betting there are some still out there. LOL
Same with other drowning type set ups.

I do but put them out of site to respect the landowners, mostly in the rough cat country locations I leave the cubbies and put the cat cages off of the ground to prevent the ground contact from rusting the wire.

About the only thing I'll leave if I can is snare wire. Too wet and corrosive here to leave most stuff outside.

In MI a lot of guys leave weights/rods along the river in places as you cannot haul it all at the same time anyways! Trapped out of a canoe for years up there and having the weights in place sure sped things up!

Only thing I bring in from the line is traps.

I made a bunch of earth anchors that are buried in spots that I set every year. Made them out of galvanized chain and rebar. Some cement blocks for drowners for beaver in certain areas.

I used to leave earth anchors in the ground but have since quit. Are soil PH is low to begin with, coupled with the fact that I trap a lot of coal properties that have acidic soil. I didn’t lose any critters, but looking closely at the cables, many were deteriorating. If I could find some stainless cable I’d be ok, or go to chain.

snares and supports are usually left out (all private ground). Weather here doesn't bother them much.

OKforester, I got a laugh out of your comment. But that is probably actually the case with a lot of trappers lol.
