Last night I had a whitetail come across in front of me and was still carrying his antlers....never seen this in my area before....
Bad pic of this whitetail....just seemed odd to see one carrying his antlers so late....

Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes......
Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

May e missing his junk. Therefore he will never loose them. Or it could be a doe with antlers. She won't loose them either.

I shot one that had carried his antlers since the previous summer. It is odd but it does happen I guess.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have seen them with antlers in early May before. Like someone said they seem to be very white in color.

cannot tell if it is old antlers or is it the new ones coming in. We have seen a few bucks already with noticeable velvet already.

I was told by a deer biologist here in Maine that some bucks sustain injuries to their testicles be it by dog, coyote or by jumping fences. Once damage is done they do not produce the hormones that is required to drop the old and grow the new.

That deer looks built like a doe to me. Buck or doe, it's odd to have hard antler this time of year.

Probably a case of "low T".

If he's not producing enough testosterone, the antlers won't drop.

Have seen bucks during the turkey season some with old racks and some growing new ones.

It looks odd to have a deer shedding it's winter coat, in springtime woods carrying hard antlers. Do you have trail cams in the area? It'd be interesting to see what happens with this deer.
