Doesn't take an expert to declare that fox sale as horrid...

Today wasn't a day for selling fox, ranch or otherwise. The grade was terrible on both in my opinion.
Ranch mink is as bad as expected.

I wonder if wild mink is going to hold or rise.Last NAFA sale, wild mink was up.It depends on which buyers show up for the sale. Also the later sale is invariable a poorer wild mink collection. It will be interesting to see how that market goes if the Italians show up.

Interesting all wild quantities for Monday and Tues. match those published last Friday May 11 in the order of sale except wolf. Order of sale has 788 and above report has 1202. What’s with that?

Where's Jim Gibb.He usually follows the sales pretty close and if he don't know something he can usually find out.He might be able to answer your wolf question Frank.

Maybe one of the fur marketing boards from the north.Gov't pays the trappers up front a guaranteed price, then they market all the fur under one label. But I thought all those boards used FHA under contract.

Ranch mink is as bad as expected. " Last Receiving Dates 2018 – Europe (Coming Soon)" How is NAFA selling 5 or 6 Million Non North American produced ranch mink affecting your prices?
Who is John Galt?

NAFA has to take on these European mink in order to keep up with the other auction houses numbers wise. As far as affecting prices it may make the North American mink lose some of the prestige it had by mixing the two. Problem is those Europeans are starting to produce mink that are just as good as this continents mink with bigger size.

I wasn’t sure our fur would make this sale. The results were mixed. But one pelt REALLY surprised us. Due an untimely death in the family which screwed up trapping season for me, We only had one (scruffy) mid October coyote. I didn’t expect it would go over $15 locally. And even then it would only happen if the local buyer was blind and had numb fingers. It brought $44 at NAFA! Holy buckets, Batman, I never envisioned that. Nor the fact that two cherry red December fox wouldn’t sell. This auction pretty much guarantees where our coyotes will go next year. And while I know flukes happen and I could have gotten hosed, this a good sign for the direction some of our fur is going in the future.
Never too old to learn
