Boy Scouts of America will end up going the way of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, who has also bowed down to liberals, who cared nothing about the organization, therefore losing their true customer base.
At this point, I hope the Scouts program does die. They deserve to.
Keith I will actually agree with you on that, to an extent. I am looking forward to doing my Eagle Scout board of review here in the next few weeks. A few months ago when this topic came up I was readily opposed to the changes, and still am strongly opposed to them,, and didn't really want my Eagle Scout, however my attitude toward the Eagle Scout award has changed a fair bit. It isn't about the BSA's honor, it is about your honor("On my honor..."). The program is simply meant to teach you how to be honorable, by ," doing [your] best to do [your] duty to God and [your] country, and to obey the scout law(trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent), to help other people at all times, to keep [yourself] physically strong, mentally awake(I have always kind of thought this to mean keeping a sharp mind, and not doing drugs and alcohol certainly helps with this), and morally straight." However I feel having girls in the program will hinder teaching young men how to be honorable. The BSA was kind of there to teach boys to be men, and how to be manly man, leading your fellows, manly!, knowing how to take care of yourself in the woods, manly!, treating women right, most certainly manly!, and most manly men are worthy of honor. So this is essentially my beef with these changes, the program will be hindered in fulfilling its main goal, to teach boys how to be men. I do feel that these changes have not yet devalued the eagle award, but I am certain they will. It won't be my award they will devalue, it will be the future awards to come.

Yep, I heard that on CBS this morning. Crazy. Isn't that what the Girl Scouts organization is for? GSA is doing a poor job , had 2 girls in it frustrating regional level administration and poor to wasteful use of local leaders, the BSA has decided that instead of making girls wait till 14 to join explorers they would open up scouting to the girls also. it is up to the local charter organization how to handle it , make a boys troop and a girls troop or one mixed troop. keep in mind BSA has 48 or 50 years experience with girls 14-18 in explorer and venture crews. this will actually bring better family unity often the girls of a family participated in nearly everything any way but could not be recognized for their achievements till age 14 when they could join a venture crew. don't worry GSA is being very inclusive and taking in all the trans girls that wish to join them.

So are you saying that the BSA gave in to the whine's of lazy parents who can't seem to juggle both? Or lazy parents that don't want to be leaders in their own community, and make the BSA bend to their will?

run a troop or sit on the committee for a while then tell me how it is. you have a family with very good leaders a mother a father a sister and a brother why not take advantage of both leaders the mother and the father rather than get less them one of them because they are both going in separate directions , if they go in one direction you get more than the 2 haves apart.
good leaders are hard to find if you can unite the family around scouting and recognize the girls achievements all the better.
to do scouting right you need to be prepared to give it about 3 hours a week and 1 weekend a month your not going to get people to juggle that not very many any way.
getting parents to help is a very big issue in scouting so why loose half your good leaders to another organization that just frustrates them and the opportunities for their daughters.

some of your regional level and even national level scouting executives have daughters I believe I heard they have been talking about greater opportunity for girls in scouting for the better part of two decades.

I'm surprised that you didn't say, it's closer and more convenient to continue shopping at Dicks, easier for my family, on the Dicks sporting goods thread.

Jenny was one of the these young ladies and she was very much a part of the troop just could not get awards or recognition. so in places where your over run with leaders by all means have two troops it is totally up for local control but there are girls who will benefit from this and make better prepared mothers , workers , soldiers, wives , business women , and civic leaders. this isn't a hole new venture this is a lowering of the age they may start participating , girls are already in venture crews and explorer posts . whats the point of raising great young men if we fail to raise them great young ladies properly qualified to be their partners in life and family?
