Today is the day. Been here done this a few times. Today is the beginning of the end. It's time to quit smoking for good. Looking for advise and encouragement. What worked for you, how did you do it.

Don't do anything you don't want to explain to the paramedics. I do appreciate a good story tho.

A little over 4 yrs. ago I quit. Was sicker then I care to say. Take a hit off a smoke and cough yourself out air. Got light headed from lack of O2. Quit cold turkey. Wasn't hard to do if were as sick as I was.

Also now have COPD because I smoked for 35 yrs.

I will encourage you! Take back your health, your sense of smell and taste. Also, you stink, you just don't realize it. I am just being honest and I hope very much you can kick the habit. As a kid, my dad smoked when I was young and kicked the habit before I was 10. I never could stand smoke and never understood how people willing pay as much as they do to give themselves cancer. I will pray God gives you the strength to overcome this. With His help - you can overcome it.

Smoked for more that 27 years, up to 2 packs a day. Took Chantix and in 2 weeks did not even want another cigarette. Been 11 years without one. Can't stand the smell of those nasty things now and wonder how/why I smoked those things.

There is a lung cancer screening test for ex smokers. Saw it on a bill board last weekend.

Quitting for good starts with a firm decision. Do not leave yourself open to another failure by trying to quit again. You already know how that turns out.

Once you make the decision with no allowance for failure, you can get it done. Might not be easy but mind over matter is a powerful thing.

Put them down and do not pick them up again! You can if you are committed!

Good luck to you!

One day I decided after 20 years of sucking on them that I had had enough. I was tired of getting smoke in the eyes, burnt, needing to run to the store at 10pm, all the other problems of the addiction, so I quit. This past month it's been 30 years smoke free.

Just what the others are saying.

I made up my mind some years ago. Threw a half a pack in the trash and never looked back on it. There was some rough days but if you keep your mind on track you be fine.

Wish you the very best.

I fell off of a roof 35 years ago, broke ribs and my back. Was confined to my house for six weeks, could not jump in car to get a pack of cigarettes. When I left the hospital told me to quit smoking, that I had typical smokers lungs. Wanted to quit, but lacked the will power. The situation was perfect and I quit cold turkey, one hour, one day, one week, one month, etc. Chewed gum until I was sore. It did not happen overnight. I had smoked for 30 years, since I was 13. Eventually you do lose the urge to smoke, but today I can detect cigarette smoke any where near me. I now find it disgusting.
Wish I had never started; suffer from COPD because of it, but I think I'm lucky. A lot of my former friends are in the cemetary because of it.

I quit when I was eleven. I knew it didn't please God (I Corinthians 6:19),was costing me too much money (A little redneck boy don't make much money!), and I had a Recon Marine tell me I couldn't be a good sniper ( A childhood dream.)if I smoked. Here's incentive: every week you don't smoke, buy traps with the money you didn't spend on smokes! Or take you sweetheart on a date with the money! I started saving my money when I was eleven, bought 5 broken down Dodge Ram 50's when I was 15, fixed them up, kept one and sold the rest when I was 18. Forget goals. Just reward yourself with the tangible things you are able to buy with the money you saved.

Good luck man. I used to smoke and dip. Most of the time one or the other but at times both. I quit the smoking and am down to about 3 cans of snuff a week from 7 cans a week a couple years back.

When I was a kid, I was bike riding around town, and met a kid that was chain smoking used butts that he sifted out of those sand ashtrays at the bowling ally. It was so disgusting I vowed to NEVER start. And didn't.
You might try the Big Bob Aversion Technique. Have a large friend slap the crap out of you anytime you light up. Works.

I quit both in January after 25 years with Chantix and the patch. My circulation was getting pretty bad, fingers turning white in the cold. Haven't had a chew or smoke and don't miss it. Now to convince the better half to quit smoking.

You've had enough! You can do it! I smoked for 20 years or so before I finally had enough.

Quit chew cold turkey after 23 years. Cinnamon gum helped a lot. And tons of water the first 8 weeks

Invest in strong chewing gum (mine was icebreakers). Went through a few dozen sticks a day. And don't even think of cutting caffeine at the same time....withdrawal was brutal for everyone around me.

I started chewing Skoal when I started in the mines when I was 18. I went through 2 cans a day, 7 days a week. I used to mix a little Seagrams VO in every can. I quit after 10 years...my gums were blistered and sore. Threw out my can coming out of the bathhouse, never looked back.

Because you couldn’t smoke underground ( a few guys did ), a lot of coal miners chewed tobacco. I remember seeing guys grabbing their cigs when they got outside, and light up two at a time. Saw a lot of cigarettes smoked while taking a shower.
