Getting the VK figured out. Still can't get the electric start working. But it climbs really good in low gear. The belts do not last very long. I will check if Royal Distributing sells after market belts for it. They are usually better than the originals.

How you making out with yours Stan Zuray.

I have the 2017 Vk540V, only issue to date is second season the carburetor fowled, needs cleaning and you can't get to the jets from outside. 1100 miles everything else is good. Very versatile. Great sled so far. Belt is wearin fast

Good to hear Mad Trapper. No problems with the electric start how is your oil consumption mine was set way to high. That may be the problem that caused you carberator to foul. Mine was going through plugs like crazy at the start.

Good to know, Muskrat. I did notice the oil going up
Thought it was break in related. It's going to the shop for tune up and cleaning 2 weeks. I will definitely mention that. Electric start is fine.

Sorry I never saw this post. There is a factory problem with a number of new VK's as to the electric start system (will not operate the starter when key is turned)but not sure if it's what you are having problem with. It's a bum connector which can be fixed or replaced. I was given a whole new harness and started replacing it but the damage I would clearly do replacing all of it was not worth it so just bent the connector fittings and it 's fine now. 3 of us here all had the same problem and the dealer acknowledged it so also. I can help with pictures if it's still an issue. Stan

I'm going to copy you comment to my Yamaha dealer right now. Thank you Stan.
You never have trouble with them screens on the side of the hood? I knocked mine off breaking trail through the bush.

Will send pictures tomorrow of screens and of the connector (and how to fix)that goes bad on each of our machines. Happy to help. Love the machine though otherwise. Kinda big but a Bravo is way to light built for my tastes on the flip side. Stan

Thanks Stan. Might start the VK up tomorow. First day of beaver season tomorow but warm weather and lots of overflow from the snow we had. But to least we have some ice last year we were still haulling wood with boat this day.

Picture 1. The arrow is pointing to the 4 wire connector that has been going bad for the three VK 540's I'm familiar with and those the dealer said also he dealt with as of last spring. Dealer mentioned a connector being a problem and I wiggled them all and that one made my starter start. Dealer then confirmed it. Then 2 people I know had same issue. If that's your problem I would not change out harness as the connector is easily fixed by bending 4 male pins just slightly like you would do in a worn 110 volt wall house socket to the plug that goes into it.
Picture 2. Right away I put a screen over the vent in the hood. Laid down two sided tape first (carpet tape) then some plastic screen I found, then Gorilla tape. Need it for sticks getting in fan but it really keeps out snow also.
Cut windshield edges down as I will definitely break windshield with the stock one sticking way out like that. Mirrors put back on.
And my wide skies get made for every snowgo I run (that my wife says look ridiculous)so I never ever have to dig out my front end. I travel mostly in open country.

My son got tired of replacing top end (3 times)every 4000 miles (RMK 600 Liberty engine)even though we added a new cooling system that didn't let the temp get above 130. So bought it off him and put a 340 Polaris in it and my wide skies. I call it my snowshoe rabbit. Hope some of this helps. Stan

I put a light bar on mine as the headlight is not very good. I just have a 4 pod on right now I may upgrade to a 8 or 10. Really light up the trail.

HELLO ,
ENTERED MY 2017 VIKING STARTING PROBLEM IN TO GOOGLE, AND GOT THIS SITE, SAW THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM.

SYSTEM WORKED WELL FROM NEW 1/18 , NEEDED BATTERY 2/20 (260 MILES ) , SYSTEM WORKED FINE.
A FEW DAYS LATER RIDING , STOPPED, ATTEMPTED TO RESTART , NOTHING HAPPENED, ROPE
STARTED FINE.
JUMPERED SOLENOID AND ENGINE TURNED OVER, REPALCED SOLENOID BUT ENGINE DID NOT TURN
OVER.
SPREADING THE PINS ON THE SOLENIOD DID NOT MAKE IT START BUT I ADDEED A LITTLE DIE A ELECTRIC GREASE
HAVING LEFT THE CABLE PLUGGED IN TO THE SOLENOID AND REMOVING THE BATTERY HOLD DOWN
PLATE TO REPLACE THE BATTERY APPARENTLY STRESSED THE CABLE PLUG IN .
SO WITH KEY ON AND MOVING THE PLUG A LITTLE IT STARTED.
JUST ADDED A AUTO PLASTIC TIE TO HOLD THE PLUG IN CABLE IN PARALLEL WITH BATTERY, IT HAS WORKED FINE SINCE THAN.

HOPE THIS EXPLAINS MY DELIMA.

This is what mine looks like now if you can see what is missing. It don't stop and makes a rattling noise because the rotor is just bouncing around

I am still running a 2011 VK 540 - extremely reliable, but a bit of a gas pig. Was pulling 4-5 visiting family around in trapping sled, plus a passenger on seat. Didn't labour the sled at all. Bought a new Ski Doo Expedition ACE 600 (4 stroke) last year. Nice to have a lighter sled option, and fuel consumption much more user friendly.

Been active with both sleds on the Feb beaver line. My 12 y.o. son always picks the new sled of course! Dad gets the TANK
