if you can get the main jet out without taking the whole carb off, its worth a try. as noted, count your turns and put back the same.
a new air filter is easy and cheap also. might as well check the float while you are in there - may need a manual to tell you where it should be.
can probably find a specification for how much the fuel pump should be pushing out as well and check it.

If it's running fine at idle and up to half throttle as you say it's not the carb. You need to rebuild your fuel pump. It has a diaphragm in it and springs. The springs are sticking or the diaphragm has a pin hole in it.
Seen it many times. Most carbs in todays world have no adjustment, they are a one shot wonder eco friendly JUNK. IE replace only. What you describe is the fuel pump. It's not getting enough fuel at full throttle.
B Keep in mind this an Onan engine. This isn't something that's new. I believe it was built in the 80's. But, I hope you're right about the fuel pump, because that would be the easiest fix...and cheap.

All the mechanics here will laugh, and i'm one, but having raced for years on dirt where carbs will get some crap in them, try this.
Rev the engine and them block the intake with your hand. The added vaccume from blocking the air off will pull the junk thru if that's what your problem is.
Ya wouldn't believe how many times this has worked. I will give it a try! Thanks for the tip!

Ya wouldn't believe how many times this has worked. You've squirted water in a carb a time or two ain't ya?
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.
