Do they have the patent date stamped on the pan that have community stamped on them?

One more question, The chain looks to be over 3 foot long and the size of 3/8 or 1/2", would that be close to original. I will go back and look at it again but that doesn't look like the pan that is on the trap. The pan is very readable but I was looking at it from about 4 feet away from where it was hanging. The Newhouse and Community and the No. 5 are very pronounced. So I wonder if it is a knock off. I didn't see Oneida on the pan. From where it was hanging, I could see both springs were stamped.

There is an earlier model #5 that didn't have ONEIDA or a patent date on the pan. The big question is.. HOW MUCH???? Might be one of them "buy it and ask later" deals..

I will get some pics tomorrow, it just seems like it is in way to nice of shape to be original

Got some pics of the trap today. One question I had was about the trap was the length of the chain. I was able to get a better look and the chain set up once it comes off the base plate, there are 9 or 10 links then there looks to be a connector link (you can kind of make it out in the pic with the block on the winch) then there are 50 more links and then the end loop. I took a picture of the stamping on the spring that was stamped the deepest, the other spring is stamped just not as deep. Hopefully after looking at some of the pics the experts can tell if it is the real deal or a knock off.

That is a really NICE early #5 COMMUNITY. Everything looks correct. I wouldn't have any concerns about the chain. I've heard that some came with factory extensions and even if that chain was added later I don't think it would devalue the trap any.

Very Nice Community #5. The Communities came in after the slick pan era, and were the first to have the raised letter pans. Buy it. The metal quality is very nice and it will clean up nicely. Would be hard to find a better one. Check the heavier metal on the base and cross, both top and bottom for ROME.
