Back in my day 30 was the norm for class size, and if anyone thinks kids are learning the basics in school they are delusional. Multiply in your head, forget about it. Add or subtract without a device, not. I employed 100s of kids in my 25 years of owning a business and I've seen the slide first hand. On retirement, have a buddy whose wife retired as a music teacher with a masters in music and gets 4gs a month for life and she retired at 57.

Teachers shouldn't be dealing with crap from parents- and definitely not students. The touchy feely everybody wins attitude that comes about by lack of accountability to the community and too much influence from a distant state government allows that. If kids are mean-kick them out- if parents whine kick them out permanently.

Nope thank your legislators.......the money is there, and has been. Ask the the OK Dept of Health about their money, and any other OK dept about waste and mismanaged funds. We don't burn gas anyway, we burn diesel, which got a higher tax than the gas. Your legislators cut production tax during an oil boom from 7% to 2%. They are idiots.

Agreed and nope she's not calling for any audits. Nobody will vote them out, and the majority of those up for reelection don't have an opponent yet. Turkey season does start Friday though smile

Wish it was that easy FlyinFinn. If kids act up the teacher can't just send them to the principal's office. If they DO get sent to the office, it really doesn't do anything and most of them shrug it off or laugh about it. Calling parents usually does no good as they think their kid can do no wrong. They think it must be the teacher's fault. Rarely the case from my experience.

If you know a teacher, ask them about the discipline rules in their school. My guess is it would blow your mind how much it has changed from when you were a student. Truth is I bet a lot of teachers would trade some of their wages for the right to discipline. It is amazing what they can't do anymore.

Who does the auditing at the state level? I'm guessing there is a state GAO that is supposed to handle that...

One state agency auditing another... "Here cat, watch the canary for me."

That write off was taken away via Trump. Previously it was $250 max.

Speaking of wasteful spending...

Any of you other Okies noticed how fancy our new bridges are? Reliefs of the flag and scissor tails in the concrete and all that jazz?

Wonder what that adds to the cost of each bridge.

Good grief...... that's why they go to college to be a teacher? So they can get good grades in college? My wife was valedictorian of her highschool a 4.0 student with a brilliant mind. Could have done anything. But she had a calling and passion to teach children that might one day be doing surgery on your heart or maybe just lifting the hood on your truck to fix it. Just like anything else, there are lazy teachers and there are horrible teachers that couldn't spell or do math much better than some of the students. But that is another problem to do with a broken system.

The education system is a mess that starts out at the top and there is very little a teacher can do about it. It's a darn shame the way things have ended up.

"So here are the five easiest majors (according to this professor’s study) and my haughty, yet worthless, opinions of each. I give some basic ideas of what you can do with each one, but don’t be surprised if the job you obtain has nothing to do with what you studied.

1. Education. If you are an education major, congratulations! Not only do you have the easiest major, but you and your classmates also have the lowest entering SAT scores. All of my fiancé’s roommates are education majors, and I’m constantly baffled at the elementary-school-like projects they’re assigned. While I busted my butt writing Advanced Synthetic Techniques lab reports and learning how to solve differential equations, they were coloring — literally. But teachers are always needed so you will most likely have a job when you graduate. Plus, you’ll have lots of pretty drawings to put on your parent’s fridge."

I feel for your wife. Must be tough being around all those brilliant education majors all day. frown

I totally agree with you, especially the "everybody wins attitude". It wasn't that way when I was in school. You had to earn what you deserved.

Here in Ky the state keeps pulling out of the teacher retirement fund . That's why they protested. MONIES that was taken out of their checks each month was then used by crooked law makers.. Building roads to nowhere, REPLACING every guard rail in the state LOL. That is just a drop in the bucket.

Not one person on here that would sit by and let your bank take money from your savings account and buy new cars for the bank officers but then not put it back. Same thing going on with the teachers retirement here......

AntiGov, derogatory posts about public education/teachers seem to be the norm for you here on Tman. Opinions are like aholes, everyone has one. It just appears that you like to show yours off more than others.

If you don't like the way our education system is, then do something about it other than posting here on a trapping focused forum. When was the last time you stepped into a classroom, when to a school board meeting, ran for school board, or participated in any kind of public education related event? Have you gone to any of these protests to voice your opinion? There are many opportunities available to you that could directly change education.

I take all of your comments and opinions about education with a grain of salt until you make a statement that proves your thoughts are based on direct experiences you've had with our CURRENT education system rather than anecdotal blabs that have no base in reality.

The public education system is FUBAR. I would just have your children educated by a college graduate that did not just party hardy during college. That is what I did for my children. I love my children, not yours.

You had some college geek teach your kids instead of a real teacher?
That's like getting the kid that bolts the wheels on the bycicles at Walmart work on your vehicle to rebuild the engine, lol.
