She shot a Doe, off the drive, on the last day of season. I was driving and she was posted with her big brother. They both harvested their deer but big brother made her gut her own. It was the first time field dressing for her. smile

Not being critical of the phones, they're here to stay. I do think way too many are missing a lot of the good stuff because of the amount of time they spend staring at a screen.
Better for a kid to be in the woods looking at the screen than on the sofa.

Great pics bic.

nice pictures.

Here's my elitists rant:

I'm a deer hunter and don't guess I'll ever understand antler hunters. Deer are food and need killed in numbers so populations stay healthy. I don't kill deer with a weapon. I use tools. Different types of firearms depending on my mood.

I have some weapons and practice with them regularly. They are also firearms whose purpose is to defend my family my property or myself.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I love whitetail deer. I love to archery hunt whitetail deer. I love venison too, but it's just a bonus prize-just like the antlers.

It's nice that people have have a place to vent there frustrations but I can assure you that crossbows are here too stay. It's the only form of hunting that is growing in Wisconsin even if it's only people changing equipment. There is no way the DNR is going backwards. Even if the question passed at the spring hearings it will die on the vine before it gets changed it would take legislation and why would they change it it's a money maker.

I wonder how crossbows are effecting participation at archery clubs. When I used to shoot at a club, it was very rare for people to shoot xBows. I wonder if xBow shooters are showing up at clubs.

Know anyone like that?

It's a fine weapon for little junior.
And it's funny you mention videos games. Every guy I know who takes a little kid hunting tells me they let their kid play games on their phone to kill the time while waiting to kill a deer. I think the kid misses too much of what hunting is all about if he thinks of it as simply video games 'til a target shows up..... To each his own.

Point of order. I'm a game playing fool on stand . It's also where I used to do my homework when I was a kid . And my bow requires me drawing it to shoot it. No trigger involved.

How come nobody ever wants to just say that crossbows are popular cause they’re an easy way to hunt during archery season ? Just say it .

I'll say it Aaron, they are popular because anyone can use one.

Same with scoped rifles, sights on a regular bow, ect, ect, ect.

The only difference between a modern compound bow and a crossbow is; one has to be drawn and held at full draw, the other doesn't.

I only hunt with a crossbow so I don't know how much of an advantage that is.

I forgot to add........I don't give a rip what ya kill your deer with.

What are the reasons guys don't like them, other than it takes some of their prestige away when they say they shot a deer with a bow?

That’s kind of a huge difference . The only difference between Billy Ocean and Stevie Wonder is Stevie is blind . Sounds silly doesn’t it ?

You still have to raise your weapon and hold on target without detection while in close proxcimity to game.

With the huge let-off on today’s compounds is it really that big of a deal?

And so what if it is somewhat more challenging? Who cares other than the elite, alpha type archers?

I don’t entirely disagree with the comparison to modern bows and crossbows.

I don’t know . This whole thing seems off , like something has been lost. Deer archery kills have become just another participation trophy instead the enormous accomplishment it used to be. “ Just hold this and squeeze the trigger.”

It doesn’t until legislatures figure archery seasons are no longer relevant due to equipment advances.
