Gee. Have a little patience. Not every one is on here 24/7!!!

I'm in Idaho. Have to keep a written log of what I buy - name, address, license number, tag numbers on CITES pelts.

Same as Nancy above except Utah, dates and how many. They request price paid and the following year estimate, LOL

They need it to track poachers.

In michigan I have to fill out a form for every purchase I make and I have to file a report every month about purchases

Then at the end of the season a final report as well as paperwork when I ship to tannery, buyer or sell locally

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Poachers wont have the legal paper trail.
When you are in possession of wildlife you had better have the documentation to prove to a wildlife officer that you are legal when he does an inspection.

I thought you had restrictions on certain furbearers thru tags(documentation).

I was going to get my pa buyers lic way to much paper work for me ,I think all this reporting for the fur buyers will lead to taxes for the states

You're high Boco!! Its so state dependent down here there is no real way to "track poachers" unless things seem "fishy" by 1) fur buyer thinking something is way off, 2) someone sees something that looks way off or complains about something, or 3) law enforcement, mostly the state agency people, see violations in the field. The chances of "catching" poachers by pouring through a blizzard of records seems like a long shot. Probably just creates new "crimes" such as we've seen on the federal political level of "lying" to the FBI (but top FBI people can lie to us and generally get away with it).

I don't know what fur buyers in SD have to do for paperwork but on the trapping side of the house, the only real paperwork that trappers have to have is 1) a annual license that's in date, 2) bobcat certification that the animal has been seen by a state agency guy (carcass surrendered within 5 days), and paperwork on "raw" fur if kept past the close of season (within 10 days). Because the only critters that really have a season in SD are mink, weasel, muskrat, beaver, and bobcat (already covered), most critter skins, even if "raw" and in the middle of the summer, don't need any paperwork. Pretty simple.

"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground".

Basically same stuff here. Need all sellers info, name, license, adress. And on buyers behalf fill out forms on all species, when bought, how many etc. all the cat paperwork is kind of a pain, everything is switched over this year and has to be filled out on the computer and emailed to the office. I don’t even own a computer lol so there’s the first hurdle. For cats we need date taken, county taken in, sex, date cat tagged, and where that cat ended up. So yah a bunch of paperwork here too

Colorado requires no license, no reporting, no paperwork, and trapping for fur is illegal.
