Can anyone point me in the right direction with the most economical option for purchasing tanned furs for educational purposes? Looking for just run of the mill Kansas animals. I can catch them, and then send them off, but I have a more immediate need I'm trying to help with in one of Kansas' nature centers. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Contact your trapping association and game and fish department, maybe they have some on hand for educational purposes. Ours here in ND has tanned furs and so does our game and fish department.

Moyles must have a ton of stuff people never pay for that they would sell too!

I second the above. Our game and fish folks have tanned fur to display. Your wildlife folks may have the same and they may be willing to loan out for a while. Also, even if your trapping association does not have sets of local fur, they should be able to direct you to some of their members who could fill your needs.

And while it is fresh on your mind, go ahead and start your own collection so you will be ready for future needs. I do outdoor expos and get invited to other events and have my own set of fur that I caught and had tanned. I could not even guess how many times I have been asked...You caught all of this? And it is priceless to see the expressions and hear the comments when folks get their hand on tanned fur for the first time.

We need to do a lot more of this to educate people on what we are about.

Each district of the KFHA have a set, or at least did! Contact WR and ask him or maybe John Borror. They should be able to help.

Fur kits should be available from the local fur/trappers council for educational purposes.
Trappers donate the skins and the tanneries can donate the tanning services if you let them know its a fur kit for educational purposes.

See your local fish and Game. You know all those animals they take from us on incidental catches....

Our WTA and WCTEP program have roughly 25 or more fur kits statewide that we have had put together over time through our incidental fur program that is part of our WCTEP program. That is roughly 2 kits per district in WI. I would contact your state DNR or Conservation education department to see if they can loan you a fur kit for an urgent need and then work with organizations to get kits put together. Not much cost for most furs right now, but mostly the tanning costs. There may be organizations or individuals that will contribute to that cause.
