My Granddaughter wanted to take this to school today as her class is studying skeletons and stuff now. Her almost 21 yr old male science teacher informed her this is a piece of wood. She asked an older lady teacher and she said it was a bone. I found this 30' below the surface sticking out of a rock cliff.

Looks like an old broken bone to me. That looks like a joint on the bottom of the bottom pic.

Don't take a certificate to see the grain in it and the joint marking ?

Thats as bad as the professor's indoctrinating the kids with their ideas instead of teaching them to think for themselves !

I don't know if it's wood or bone but I can guarantee ya that if a kid brought that to my daughters biology/science class she would have had samples of bone & wood under the microscopes along with a sample of that to compare to and being asking their opinions. Then she would find a college that would give her & her class a definite answer. She wouldn't really care wether they thought it was wood or bone, wether they were right or wrong, just get them engaged in the process of learning. Casey teaches intercity high school and she'll just flat shut the regularly scheduled programming down for a chance to get the kids reved and involved about something. "Daddy, give them anything to fight about and they will, give them something to think about and they fight less" . I don't know what that really says but she lives it and it works. All teachers don't suck.

Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Man, I am glad I had good teachers. And I'm glad I didn't have to send my sons to a school like those so many here sent/send their kids to.

I wondered that too Muskrat but today who knows. College classes in high school, summer school etc. Next Monday Grandson will take it for show and tell. We'll see what his teacher thinks.

I got a niece that worked her butt off at UWM did two years work in 1, very smart girl. She started teaching high school history class last fall and she is 22. Her older sister also started teaching at 22 or 23 and is teaching 4th graders. It helped that both parents are teachers, but those girls barely look old enough to drive LOL.. So it can be done. I think a science teacher not saying, Well Kids what do yo think? is this wood or bone? Let see?
He missed a great chance to get them kids thinking/learning. Some people can be really smart and it won't make them a good teacher. Others can be good teacher by showing others how to learn by directing them to find answers to their questions.

Haven't you ever disagreed with someone on a issue without hating them? I have.

One teacher.

One.

Thanks for lumping us all into a derogative group because of one bone-headed individual.

Have not all law abiding gun owners been lumped into one derogative group because of one bone head by teachers?

You guys don't get it both ways.

^^^^^^Actually, no they have not been lumped into one derogative group by teachers.^^^^^^^^^

In school, it can be taught that broad reaching generalizations are usually incorrect at some point.
