I’ve got a bunch of them here in the bottom, darn deer seem to be on a seek and destroy mission every fall.

The town of Gilman, just a few mile up the road used to have a bunch of big cypress that were panted back in the fifties.

One thing I've notice when it comes to beaver and cypress the beaver will cut the fire out of them till the tree gets around three or four fingers wide then they don't seem to mess with them much. Always wonder if the tree gets a bad taste to it when it get larger in size. Had a beaver screw up one time and came into my lake of all places and cut the small ones I had but wouldn't even cut bark on the older trees.

I heard there a lot of government red tape involved now days in cutting and selling cypress logs. On my part I think they do look better in the swamps then at Home Depot.

They range naturally up the Mississippi River to the Mo Boot heel region, but do well as a planting throughout the state. I have some I planted here in St. Louis Co from a conservation tree package that are doing great and are making knees as well. They are a Deciduous Conifer, meaning they shed their "Leaves" in the fall, hence their name "Bald Cypress". Skiff's and Perouques are made from the wood as it's extremely rot resistant.

Bald Cypress all over the W. Tennessee, W. Kentucky, S.E. Missouri, S. Illinois area....Have one below the house in a creek, with knees, that turns a beautiful red/ burnt orange in the fall.

they are plentiful down here. love duck hunting in and amongst them. There are some that are big enough for my big self to get in and start a fire to dry out my clothes when I trip over a bustio and take a dive. very beautiful creation.

I have 4 in my yard that I planted. Two have knees. I hate the dang nuts on the darn trees. They make a big mess in my yard and my drive way. The nuts have a yellowish oil in the darn things that stains my truck and is hard to clean the oil stain off. I constantly have the sharp nut fragments stuck in my shoes that come off in my carpet and stick in my bare feet. Those suckers hurt badly when stepped on. Beautiful trees in the summer and have a beautiful burnt orange color in the fall. They grow naturally in the big swamp areas in So. Ind.

I planted one and it is now about 15 feet tall. My local bucks shred it every year. Somehow it made it past them and is now filling out nicely. I am in north west Ohio about a hour south of MI.

Two local lakes within 15 miles of me in eastern Ky. have hundreds of bald cypress. And they will grow fine on dry land if they are planted there. There is one 60 feet tall in my yard.
The knees are not needed by the trees if if they are getting enough oxygen to the roots. They are stimulated to grow knees if the roots are oxygen starved.

I live near st. Louis Mo. and see them all the time. The farther east and south in Il. the more I see. I had six of them in my yard when I lived in W. Frankfort IL. They are all along the Miss. river, also the Ohio, Cumberland, and Tn. that I know of. How far north I don't know.

A pretty large forest/swamp of them at Horseshoe lake on the Miss river. Reelfoot lake is full of them also.
