we pay 10.00 a dozen for pike shiners and 8.00 a dozen for smaller bass shiners. wish they weren't so expensive and it wasn't illegal to get your own. I'm not sure what they are charging for fatheads

The prices for minnows here are insane. Thank God, we are able to trap or dip our own here or I could never afford to use them. I looked in to getting a bait dealer's license for leeches and to be honest, it looks like they are (quietly) trying to phase out commercial trapping/netting of minnows here.
Back when minnows were easily available at good prices here, they were priced by the dozen but sold by the scoop lol. You always got more than what you asked for.
Just happy to be here.

Sorry but what a Bass size Minnow? Shiners? Everyone I ever knew used artificial baits for Bass.
I Never seen anyone fish for bass with minnows of course here you see very few bass fishermen. Cast a shiner towards a smallmouth on a bed. I swear they see it coming through the air!

Medium fatheads (about two inches) are about $2.00 a dozen here. Medium shiners (three to three and a half inches) are about $4.00 a dozen and large shiners (four to five inch) are about $7.00 a dozen.
I use the fatheads in the spring for crappie. I can keep several dozen in the perforated part of my bait bucket floating in the lake for a week at a time with hardly any die-off.
Shiners are fragile by comparison. You look at them wrong and they go belly up. I only use them once and a great while when the chain pickerel are spawning. I much prefer crankbaits for everything except crappie.
Eh...wot?

I think fatheads are about 2 to 2.50 a dozen now or you can buy them by the pound. That's what we normally do.
It is what it is.

In Pennsylvania bait dealers are supposed to count out their customer's minnows. The law says a person can't have over 50 minnows in a bucket. A boy at our church got checked by a WCO. He had like 60 or so minnows in his bucket. He also didn't have a tag with his name and address fixed to his bucket. The WCO let him slide with no tag on the bucket but did cite him for too many minnows.
