I made the Searcy, Arkansas Groenewold pickup location today at Searcy Farm Supply. I had small batch of beaver that I accumulated over the last two weeks since I shipped my seasons catch. It went real simple and like this....

I backed by tacoma up to the truck and Mr. Lewing stepped up to my tailgate. He said "You know them dry beaver are $9 and them green beaver are $7". I said sounds good load em up. Wait but how bout them rats. He said thems $2. Sounds good cut me a check fella.

6 dried beaver @ $9 each
6 green beaver @ $7 each
3 rats @ $2 each

Not too bad for getting paid on the spot with no commission on southern fur I reckon. It was a cool for a person from the South to finally have the "Groenewold Truck" experience. Funny thing is Mr. Lewing's wife purchased 10 of my dried beaver @ $13 each in the MS Trappers Association State Sale a few weeks ago.

When I sold to Grony's truck in December I was impressed with how efficient they operate. I suppose they deal with this stuff every day and are so in tune with fur and the market that it just comes natural to them.

Yea this fella wasn't playing around he gave me the price and seemed to shoot straight. He had a pile of beaver in the truck. It was for sure a great experience and I will probably do it again.

Groney Is so efficient that he knows what he Is going to give you before he even sees your fur. And I'm not kidding when I say that.

But I'm right. Let's say groney Is working on a $12.00 average on coon. He knows from the get go that If you have 30 coon he knows how to manipulate the price per pelt to get It to that figure.

Some $20.00 coon some $10.00 coon some $5.00 coon. Those coon may not be worth those prices but It gets him where he wants to be with the average.

The trapper sees 5 or 6 $20.00 coon In his pile and that's all he remembers when he leaves the rat wagon with the check.

Groney Is a smart business man and he Isn't going to take It In the shorts when It comes to buying fur.
Ever notice how Nov and Dec rats are worth more then Jan and Feb rats. He's just making up for the higher prices he paid in the beginning of the season. And of course he's now buying on speculation.

I miss the competion between the country buyers. We had 5 buyers In my area now we only have one.

Every outlet for our fur has some type of an advantage.

Lot of truth here. The fewer the options the easier for the trapper to lose out. Whether a person is savvy enough to pick the right outlet at the right time is another topic all together.

Again agreed. Same thing with those who send to Canada. They continue to talk about their “hi”. When I ask average I get the deer in the headlights look.

So if you bring a bunch of fur to groany, and he separates it into a few piles say coon-$20-$10-$5.Can you say "I'll take your offer on the $20 buck coon but I will take back the others"?
When we brought our fur into the Northern store buyer,or Ratcliff, the other buyer,we would get a price and grade on each skin, and could take or leave what we wanted.

Exactly how it works, well put Beav. We had buyers in every small town here including my cousin. They would all communicate what was hot and not, but he paid more for prime fur than others, they bought early stuff for to much to get numbers. He bought less and made more per pelt. Then he'd buy from other buyers cheap.

Common sense catches alot of fur..
