when you can no longer see with the bare eye the black on the wing tips?

The leading edge of the light geese migration appears to have arrived here. I was watching a number of skiens flying overhead during the lunch hour at work today and basically couldn't see the black when they were overhead. Considering that the wing span is about 4 feet and the black area on each tip is about 20 sq inches my guess is about 600 yards.

What do you guys think??

Farther.
A lot of it depends on the backdrop of the sky. Clear, white clouds, grey clouds that type of thing.

Not close enough to see the few remaining collars, or the green and silver covered pink!

We have a bunch of white fronts here. And there are at least 100+ swans on the lake behind my buddies house.

Hey Jeremy Eickhoff!

How many bands do you get off of snow geese a year or every couple of years?

How old is the oldest band you ever got off of a snow goose?
