As a Veteran of 50 plus years marketing fur I would have to say in all honesty that neither NAFA or FHA actually give a rats arse about the North American Trapper Canadian or US I have used both houses since the early seventies and also have sold thousands of skins in New York when the Fur District was thriving and my evaluation of Both of these facilities is they don't put up fur properly! The Market is the Market and disputing prices levels is nonsense, the crux of the matter for us is where they put my skins! I know fur and I now fur well, and the put up and offering at each of the Major Houses is at best Sad and at worst criminal! Year after Year I try to Market goods in several different outlets for the simply fact that from time to time you can greatly benefit from a sudden Market swing whether your goods were graded properly or not! What I want is competent, skilled people with actual knowlage and skill lotting my goods, the price is inconsequential! The put up at both places today is a nightmare and that is the deal breaker!I hear the story every time I ask that prices are so low it makes no sense to fine grade articles BS!As a harvester I want my fur graded properly each species each time, I don't care if there is a dime difference in grade I want my skins graded right! Perhaps if the level of put up had not dropped in the last few years purchasers would be more willing to raise levels on grades that they know are clean, now they know they are buying a pendulum swing in each string, what is the incentive to compete! I don't know, perhaps I'm just a jaded, cranky old man who longs for days gone bye but something is not right here beyond our shrinking, volatile market! Guy, I agree on this completely! What came first, "the chicken or the egg" higher prices or more accurate grading? Look at western beaver, everything from Mississippi to Alberta if it's a pale skin it goes into the top grade, the only requirement is color and prime leather. To be fair not many trappers are catching beaver under the ice now and the auctions have a poor selection of good quality winter caught skins to work with when they "grade- put up" or what ever you want to refer to lotting as.

It's a good thing the value of the US dollar has dropped 10 percent or so from this time last year it would have really been a blood bath If making some money is your bag every sale these days is a blood bath

My decent coyotes brought good money for what we have around here. If I knew how to grade coyotes I would have thrown more away and my average would have been a lot higher. LOL

Blood baths are 30 dollar averages. Praise god! Hallelujah, we didn't fall back to here.

I was disappointed in the grading of my red fox. The price is the price but they should at least be graded accurately and in kits if the same grade. I wondered how they had the graded so fast. They didn’t do there job!!! Last year at FHA.

In general I notice grading changes according to the market that year. Wish it would stay consistent from year to year...probably too much to ask.

Most fur is already caught by January. That sort of info comes too late to be useful especially when it comes after the LRD. I'll still trap marten for a $70 buck avg.$100 would be better though. My comment is about the expectation, if the market is going south how can you expect it to go north just because it was like that last year? Last I heard it was going north. "We're expecting improvement for long hair trim articles — coyote, wolves, fisher, marten, red fox, heavy raccoon. But water animals like beaver, otter, wild mink, is where the market is still depressed," said Fur Harvesters CEO Mark Downey.

LOL, Dirt, not many people believe the propaganda. If people didn't believe it, they wouldn't be doing it. For example: I quote a legend. "Fur prices up 50%.That is quite encouraging."
