Im looking for info on going out west elk hunting. Wont be making the trip till 2019 or later but want to plan ahead. Have anyone on here have had a good outfitter from past experiences or a certain state to look into? Since it will be my 1st trip elk hunting im leaning towards a guided hunt over a DIY hunt.

What weapon do you prefer? What time of year as in do you want to hear bugling? Are you ok with any legal elk? Do you have any preference or bonus points?

You might want to be a little more specific on the type of hunt you want and what kind of animal you want to take. It makes a big difference if you want a horseback hunt from a remote camp vs spotting/stalking from a pick-up.

I had success hunting with Terry Pollard of Bald Mtn Outfitters on my first elk hunt in 2016. It was a horseback hunt from remote camps in the Pinedale Wy area. There were 5 of us in one camp and 2 in another. Of the 5 in my camp only 2 of us got elk (bulls), but at least 2 others had an opportunity. The 2 guys elk hunting from the other camp had taken their first and only horseback riding lesson the week before the trip. They were totally unprepared to be successful and neither were. Two moose hunters in the same camp with the 2 elk hunters were successful getting their moose. If you want more info, PM me.

Id love to get a 300 inch bull or bigger but I'll be happy with any 4 by 4 bull or bigger since its my 1st elk. And any kind of hunt is ok with me. I can hike in miles if I have to or horseback or easy access hunts

I haven't hunted elk with very many guides but one I did hunt with and go with again is Mike Colpo. He runs lazy j bar o outfitters in Montana. He has archery and rifle hunts and does very well at both. You could get a tag there with no points.
