I usually wear gloves when skinning and deboning and processing cats but not always when fleshing and boarding, use my thumb nails to hold stuff and what not and sew. Paid the price last week, I usually get 1 or 2 pretty bad infections a year but this one takes the cake. I fleshed and boarded 23 cats Friday morning then skinned another 18 that afternoon and processed the meat and everything as well so I had my hands dirty all day in it. Woke up the next morning and it was sore. I thought I just separated the nail from the skin a little from pulling so much. Went and cleaned about 400 lbs of fish that Saturday then drank beer that afternoon so I’m sure that didn’t help either. Woke up Sat night and felt like someone was pounding on it with a hammer. Started some leftover antibiotics from the last time and salt soak. Did that for 4 days nothin working, went to the the dr yesterday and got some high powered stuff. Came home yesterday and tried to relieve some pressure and cut the nail and skin and it shot out some nasty stuff about a foot away. Instant relief. Doin better today but missed out on a fur pickup, about 50 less cats I could of put up before deadline and a bunch of miserable days tryin to work because I didn’t put a .15 cent glove on. Oh well wear your gloves young men and women even if you don’t have any cuts or anything. upload photo albumsSunday morning upload photo albumsWednesday afternoon upload photo albumsJust now Sucker hurt under the nail like that, ughh

I’m a fan of the yellow dish washing gloves. And hand sanitizer.

What's the old saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"...? Txcoonman, I glad you thumb seems to be improving. What's the antibiotic that the doc has you on, if you care to tell. I used to be a hospital pharm tech so used to work with that sort of stuff, although there are new ones that I don't know about nowadays.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground". Genesis 1:26

I started myself out on Bactrim or sulfamethoxazole for 3 days then doubled up and took cephalexin as well Doctor gave me clindamycin now

The problem was not caused from the fur or the fins. It sounds like you were suffering from too much blood in your alcohol system. You needed to drink enough beer to match the amount of furs and fish you cleaned.

a bowl of hot water as hot as you can stand and as much Epsom salt as you can dissolve , doesn't mater if there is some left in the bottom of the bowl that won't dissolve soak your hand 3 times a day it really drives the infection out , when I clean a bunch of fish or do some other stupid thing without gloves and my fingers start swelling this normally has me good to go in a few days.
often I just keep microwaving the same glass bowl each day till it is hot again
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
