Set out my first beaver traps of the season this afternoon

Hope to post good pictures tomorrow of day one on the beavers

Got one last week that was just shy of 70 lbs!lol I've been destroying them little football beavers to though, But i'd rather carry one of them a 100 yards over those giant ones. good luck hope you get a ton of them flat tails

The two today make 45 off just two properties. Tomorrow is my last check and done for the season. All done with 12 330s and I think I caught 2 in 750s (which I only ran a couple for a few days). 34 on the stack, rest are on the boards drying. I'm ready to be done.

Good luck!

Nice stack

Use to chase them from opening day, but the value is not there now, and because I also do ADC work, I have no problem letting the spread all over the place. It pays better

I want to catch enough to make the wife a vest and to keep access on a couple if properties that I don't want to lose

By they way. Traps were empty this morning

That's too bad. I hear you on prices. Castor is the equalizer for me right now. At an even $50 per pound I'm averaging $12.50 a beaver when I pull them from the water, so to speak. Nine and one half pounds from this batch of beaver. They are also filling my bait needs.

finger trapper that's the way to pile up those flattails 45 is a dang good season lol I thought I was doing good at 20 . I can attest that's a lot of work!! When it comes to beaver trapping the easy part is setting the trap! That's when the work begins! I didn't catch any today either and actually am relieved. It gave me a chance to get caught up in the fur shed a little. Been boarding rats and beaver most of the day.

Tony, I hear ya. Lots of beaver in these parts where I am. And very few chasing them with prices so poor, but the numbers I found on these properties is still surprising.

Twenty is nothing to shake a stick at either, especially when you put them all up too. But give me a few hundred rats to do and I'd be in hog heaven. Love putting up rats. Back in my home state it was carcass to board in 5 minutes.

Best of luck to you!

that's good time im not quite there yet its takes me closer to ten. But I have been abel to stay in the 100+ rat numbers for the past couple of seasons, I finish every stitch of fur I get lol even skunks but no grinners!!If it wasnt for all the by products I can get off the beavers they would'nt seem worth it to me either! I feel obligated to put up the fur to the best of my ability even if it ony brings a few bucks

Yep Tony if I could only get fur from them I would not trap right now
But....
Pelt
Castor
Sac oil
BTO
and Skull all add up

I'm with you all. But, I'll trap for friends to help them out and that was what this was for me. Since I caught them I will use everything I can.

All done for the season so going out with a bang. 3 for 9 sets.

yep troy id be lost hitting the yote line without a bottle of BTO,and im starting to lean heavy on the sac oil as well! For some odd reason i don't do well with castor on yote sets! It's a guaranteed coon if I do. which I try to avoid like the plague. I'd rather do a grinner remake over a coon!

Just the back straps for me, there good, not anything special!!

Rest of it gets turned in to bait. The legs got too much nasty fatty stuff

Like any game the key is learning how to prepare it. I'm fond of it.

I see you have your weiser bag setup with a clip connecting the handles. I do too. Makes a big difference. On that clip, I put my 750 setters and a single “emergency” cable extension wink

Good tip, thanks.

Yes, I simply haven't much since moving south. I had one itch to scratch this year and it took me 4 days to connect:

I expect to do more again next season. Partly I haven't because 90% of my trapping gear is stored with relatives in a different state.

I'm sure that would be excellent table fare. I would try it with a young one and I'd recommend making very sure you don't get any castor or sac oil on anything. Also, I would brine it at least overnight to help remove blood and tenderize a little. Remove as much fat and glands as possible too.

I've never tried beaver tail. It always looked just like a bunch of fat and gristle to me. Have any of y'all tried it, and have recipies to share? I still have 3 colonies left to trap, beaver sausage and burgers coming up!
