Some recent post on here about hudson bay company got me looking for some good reading info on the company's history. Anyone have any suggestions on books or such on the history of hbc and history of trapping in North America?

My great grandfather known as "the old man of the company" was the factor of the Hudson Bay post at Fort MacPherson in the 1880s. He was basically king of the Delta during that time.

Berch Bark Bregade- Its the first book I found mainly about the Canadan fur trade

Fur, Fortune and Empire (Eric Jay Dolin) The best one I'v ever found

also read Liathain (Eric Jay Doltin) Read both Eric's books. You will get a much better idea on how this country came to be

"Fur Hunters of the Far West" by Alexander Ross. He was basically the first to run Hudson Bay brigades up into the Snake country and there are plenty of insights into the grand old company from the perspective of somebody who was there. Not often that we get the story first hand from somewhat who wrote about it while it was still fresh in his mind. He covers the very early years of HBC's Columbia district.
