This is my second year of trapping. I set some snares along a fence line where coyotes were going under the fence. I was able to catch a dozen. I only set the snares at places that the cattle couldn't get to the fence. On more than one occasion I watched coyotes go to another fence line and cross under. I told the owner about it and he told me to set some snares along that fence line, I told him I didn't feel good about putting snares along that fence that the cattle good get to. My question is can I use a snare with a
BD? He doesn't run a cow, calf operation just finishes them and sells so the cattle are 400,500 lbs or more when he gets them.

The kids and I ended the season with 36 coyotes, 2 skunks and 1 badger.

I don't see that as being a problem.
Maybe try and favor the side away from the cattle.

I run the ram power snares and use the 3/64 breakaway snare. I am able to set right in the pastures bush .
If you use a breakaway 285 # s hook and whatever lock you are presently using you should be fine .

I'd put a break away device in my snares for sure if the chance of catching a cow. Anchor your snares to the posts, not the fence itself so they get a solid object to pull against to open the snares. I think if you're setting right in the fence not out from it, your chances of actually catching a cow would be very minimal.

I heard of a snareman catch'n a cow by the tong on a fence line. Be carefull. Better yet have him move the cattle while you have it set up.
