For anyone following the international fur auctions, the auction in Denmark started yesterday. Due to the weakening of the U.S. dollar and increased competition, mink prices rose about 10% on the brown and mahogany male mink. There are quite a few more buyers there this sale than there were a year ago. Including quite a few Russian and Turkish buyers.
Tomorrow they sell the brown females.

If it is ten percent higher than last year, then the buyers are basically paying the same price in Euros as last year?

Saga sells in Euros.(kind of) I'm hoping FHA sells in Euros in Helsinki. I don't know. Could be good for another 10% for me.

Looks like it tracks the Euro. "The sales started with an offering of more than 700,000 Brown and Brown Velvet males that were sold at a 2 per cent increase in DKK compared to the auction in June, where similar regular skins were sold. In USD, prices rose with more than 10 per cent." "The day’s largest article were Brown and Brown Velvet females totaling 650,000 skins. The Classic dropped 4 per cent and the Velvet 6 per cent. In USD, the price rose 6 and 4 per cent, respectively." Brown Male average $40.80 Brown Velvet Male average $51.04 Brown Female average $21.88 Brown Velvet Female average $29.92

Those Danes might still be making money at these prices, which means they stay the same or even expand flooding the market even more in the future. At least their prices are lower.
Luckily our dollar has weakened giving the U.S. ranchers and trappers a chance to compete a little more.

The price of oil dropped today and the Canadian dollar went up.That is arse backwards, every time in the past when oil dropped or rose, the Canadian dollar did the same.Must have something to do with the weakening of the USD and inflation down there.

If it is ten percent higher than last year, then the buyers are basically paying the same price in Euros as last year? Dirt, One year ago today the EURO cost $1.06 USD. Today the Euro costs $1.22 USD. that's a 16% difference, meaning the buyers purchasing in Euro's are paying/costing 16% in USD. less than last year.

The females are still selling below the cost of production so I don't see any improvement to short hair wild fur. Well should mean they can’t produce mink At a viable profit You can’t raise all males. Pelting out should be getting very common

Problem is I read where in Finland they can feed a mink for $17 each, Denmark should be just as cheap or cheaper. Over here it may cost anywhere from $20 to $30 just to feed a mink. Labor will cost a lot but they are pretty modern over there.

" As of January 2016, the per-pelt average price fell from 610 kroner ($91) in 2014, to 227 kroner ($34). Considering each animal costs around 140 kroner ($21) in food each year, the profit margin will be narrow this year, if it exists at all."

I hope it does cost the Danes plenty to raise a mink, we need their production to go down.

Any more insight on how the sale finished up? MNRATMAN This sale was predicted to be lower, it turns out that mink prices actually went up a little. Also heard that this wasn’t the best of the best pelts on this sale. So all in all this was a very positive development.
