The other day I checked a couple 330s and noticed one looked a little off through the ice when I chopped it out both springs were broken. One in the coil area and the other half way down the spring .just though it was kind of funny and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Last year I also had one break.

I have not experienced this, but have heard of it before (belisle if I recall correctly, not 100% on that) . Out of curiosity, what brand, and how old were the traps if you know?

Sounds like they weren't tempered properly. Or have the traps ever been cleaned with acid?

Hydrogenation of the spring steel. Set in acid type waters and they break. Had some duke stoploss like that.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Early 80's I bought some Northwoods #11's and set them. I was also setting Victor 11's in the same stream. Out of two or three dozen Northwoods about 1/2 a dozen had broken springs when I checked them. They broke at the bend. Never had a problem with the Victors.

I'd bet those Northwoods Springs were harder then the Victors.

it may have something to do with the water quality both traps it happened to were set in the same water. I never would have thought about it being acidic water.
