I was wondering what y'all use for coon bait. I made some bait from sardines and tuna with a little vanilla to put on top of the trap. Is it better to use fish pellets, cat food, corn, dog food. I think mixing fish pellets with feed corn would work good. Let me know Thanks jon C.
If you don't love it leave it Merle.

I get cheap fish flavored dry cat food and some cheap dog food that has chunks barely big enough to slide by the trigger and down into the trap. The dog food is cheaper so it stretches out my bait, and being bigger makes the trigger have to be moved by the Coon to get it.
That’s the theory anyhow. I fill up to just above trigger and a few pieces on the ground in front. Lure on lip, cap or homemade fish oil for trailing.
I can’t stand sticky stuff stuck in the dp at the end of the year.

Keep it simple. Didn’t have any thawed out fish so I grabbed the dogs chow and dumped some into a gallon ziplock bag. Grabbed the plain Cheerios out of the cabinet and dumped some of that in to mixed it around and dumped into the dps as I set them.Set 6 dps and caught 8 coons in three nights. Put the trap where the coon will find it and you will catch coon. These were all z traps so they were push pull to fire. If I use my pull only dps I spear a marshmallow on the trigger.

I use the burnt sludge from the bottom of my VFW's fish fry cookers.

What kind of mess do you guys have using the oily, fishy, cat or dog food in your DPs? A little rain in the tube and that dry pet food is mushy...and hard to remove. And any liquid or raw fish baits....just dang! What a mess that is...getting all over everything in the truck bed and other trapping gear.
