Boil in hard wood ash. 1 big handful per gallon of water. Bring to a boil for 15 mins flood the kettle to get the junk on the top out of the kettle. I like to bring mine back to a boil again and flood kettle one more time. If any are skunky wash them by hand in white vinager or you risk spreading it to all the traps. Then dye wax and set. Works for me. This would definitely clean the trap of blood and hair and get it ready for re-use....but definitely not "right away". The op is looking for advise on how to get the trap back in the ground quickly.

Wild Thing I gave the fastest way I know. Golf ball the wax is the stop the rusting that will acute turning the freeze thaw that is always a factor. And the whole process only takes 4 or 5 hours. Hang outside over nite and set next day. Herb Lennon was not wrong on to many things.jmo Definitely the best way to prep them to go in the ground again wetdog. He does say he has a "bunch" of them to do so that is probably the way to go - I just wouldn't want to do that 1 trap at a time. Probably the fastest way is to replace the bloody trap with a clean one and boil, dye and wax the dirty ones when you have a dozen or so to clean up.

just reset em. the whole area stinks of blood and pee and crap and whatever else anyhow Right. If the end of the season just toss them in a tub of water overnight for a soak. then hose them off with a nozzle pressured hose or pressure water the next day. Hang dry and wax. I'll never boil a trap again (or dye for that matter). Waste of time and increases your catch by zero.

i last had all my traps out of the ground to clean in november or october. Ive been moving dirty traps from place to place and just using them. knock off the chunks if you have any on your traps and just set them. Im still catching just as well as freshly dyed an waxed traps. Seriously the scent thing is blown way out of proportion. Sometimes i dont even change out the polyfill thats still under the pan. No problems with dug out traps or any of that. Coons will do sometimes but they do it to clean traps just as often as dirty ones.

I just rinse em off in cold water, scrub with a brush at get em back in the ground. You'll have a oddball coyote or fox scratch but overall no problem. If your using chloride or salt for antifreeze they will rust.
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..

Pressure wash using degreaser, boil in lye or sani flush, then wash off again with straight water, dye and wax your traps.
