She's losing a lot of feathers and I found this egg today. Any ideas? It's the chicken in the middle.

Looks like she's molting. The egg is just calcium deposits. Raising chickens, you're going to get some odd eggs sometimes.

Strange time of year to start molting but could be.

The egg is ugly but we used to get those all the time. They eat just fine.

Molting. I have some that start in the fall, others in winter or speingr. Especially see the young ones starting at odd times. She'll be fine.

No place on this forum for those who don't swear allegiance. Those who don't will hereafter be called Trolls or Libtards. The chickens are going to have accept this, just the way it is.

Just be careful handling her when she is molting. The new pin feathers coming in are painful to them if rubbed the wrong way, so to speak.

I'd say there's another chicken pecking her feathers out. Hard for me to see from the pics on my busted screen but I'd keep an eye out for it. Once they start pecking feathers they don't stop and it can get outta hand. My experience has been that it's worse in the winter. Don't know if it's because they get bored from not being able to roam or what? Just something to consider and pay attention to. Hopefully she's just molting though

Ok, I have looked her over very good, and with all my experience with chicken to me it's very obvious to what is wrong with her.


She has not been fried !!!

If others are pecking her throw a flake of alfalfa or clover hay in the pen every few days.

I think it needs to be fried.

She is molting. My chickens look the same. They molt about the same time every year.

Not to worry. Looks like normal molt to me. Lots of variability due to temperatures, day light, feed, and so on. If she is a one year old, no problem. Let her go and she should grow new feathers and lay great eggs. Not quite as many, but bigger and better. If she is two years old or older, consider her for the soup pot.

Almost impossible not to go there. I'm glad you broke first.
