Beginning to hate old houses!!!!!!!!!!!

The electronic thermostat on the wall is set at 70 Degrees from 8 am to 11 PM. After 11 PM, the Thermostat is set to 68 Degrees. During either set temp, once it reached 68 at night or 70 during the day. The temperature in the house stays at that temp. That's a good thing.

The part I don't get, is why the Boiler turns on every 5 to 6 minutes , when the Temperature on the wall thermostat did not go below either 68 or 70 Degrees ?

One thing I did notice, when I went in the Basement to check the Boiler, that Temperature gauge on the Boiler would go down after the boiler shut off. That is understandable. But, even if the water temp in the Boiler went down to , say 80 Degrees, for example; if the room temp that the wall thermostat reads does not drop below what it was set at; why would the Boiler fire up ?

Your boiler is set up to maintain temperature. That's what it sounds like to me. You can get a new aquastat that will only bring your boiler on when is a call for heat.

even if you're boiler set up to maintain temperature. It should not be coming on that often. Are you sure there's not a pump running somewhere where you are dispersing Heat

Starts up and runs for 5 or 6 minutes and shuts down for 5 or 6 minutes. Then on again. If the temp in the house went down, I could understand it going back on. But, it doesn't drop one degree below set temp. The old Boiler and old wall thermostat when set to 70. would turn on at 68 and turn off at either 70 or 71.

Ok. The temperature differential setting is to tight. It should be user adjustable on a Honeywell aqua stat via a dial on the side exposed when you remove the Grey cover. Say your aqua stat is set to 150 degrees. At 150 it will cut off. When temps drop below 150 it will cut on. With the differential set to say 5 degrees it will cut off at 150 and then on again at 145. This keeps it from short cycling. Play around with it and see how a 10 or 15 or 20 degree differential works out. Some of the Honeywell aqua stats are adjustable from 3 degrees to 35 degrees.

Canvasback i would see if your check vale is stuck open allowing the water to move thru out the system. Is the thermostat something. If so make sure its not programmed as a heatpump. you can tap on the check valve with a hammer to make it close.

Do you have zones?? Maybe another thermostat someplace else in the house calling for heat?

X2 Welcome to the age of electronics. I put a new heat unit in which came with a new electronic thermostat . Bout drove me nuts first week. Doing same thing. I called the furnace guy and he said the new stats "check " the air on occasion . But the air handler has to be running. Old mercury stats never did that.

I still think it a open check valve or a open zone valve. Either one allows for convection or even gravity to constantly move the hot water to the base board. Then it cools and moves back to the boiler nonstop. The boiler final cools enough and turns back on and reheats the water. All the time on cold days acts normal but on warmer days can over heat the space. I have seen this a lot times.
