Anybody try the Expand a Pan on their 550s. If so did your catch rate go up? Will they fit on Rubber Jaw 550s?

I see no problem with the size of the pan on the 550 and have used them for quite a few years.I do see an increased chance of toe catches or a foot being thrown clear by a jaw, with large pans.Proper guiding will put the paw on the pan and ideally, centered between the jaws.

I tried them this year for the first time on my canine line. I found my rate of toes catches and empty traps went way up. Had a light catch circle at most sets by no animal. I feel the foot hitting the pan and jaw at the same time cause many of the misses. Switching them back for next year. None of my 550 sets without the expanded pan had these issues. All solid pad catches. That is my experience.

I have tried them on a couple of my 550’s and I don’t see any advantage.

It's all in the way you make your sets to take full advantage of all the benefits a big pan can offer. I do not run big pans on my 550s only double longs.
