I won't shop menards. Last time I was in the store I needed 40 8ft 2x4's. Went to the lumber and started sorting through a pallet. Every one I grabbed looked like I could build and ark or a bow. And of they didn't have a wicked curve they looked like Paul Bunyan had twisted them 90°. After sorting through roughly 100 boards a menards employee comes and asks what I thought I was doing. Said I'm looking for straight boards to frame a wall. He proceeds to tell me that sorting through the lumber wasn't allowed. I informed him that I was the one paying for the material and I would pick and choose which boards I wanted. He proceeded to tell me that isn't how it works with menards. After a heated discussion for about 10 minutes I told him where he could stick the lumber and walked out. Leaving 140 2x's laying in the middle of the isle. Home depot(here anyways) has superior lumber AND customer service. They actually help you sort through the lumber and check with you to make sure it's to your liking before putting it on the cart. Not to mention they carry REAL tools. Not that crap menards tries to sell.

Quality builders aren't using any of the above mentioned places for lumber .
Said mentioned stores , happen to sell lumber products, along will a million other things .

Their all the Walmart of true lumber yards .

No wonder Menards is now sending the rebates in a two piece postcard where you cant see what is inside. Before anyone handling mail could see how much rebate was . Also Menards never asks for identity for proof you are the person on rebate card.....Menards has some evaulating to do....doing business.

There are different grades of lumber...most of which have to be special
ordered and it does cost more. You wont find Saratoga Straights at most lumberyards let alone Menards.

Lumber is graded on knots not on how straight it is. JMO

I buy from menards for personal use because I am a little cheap.
for work we buy from quality stores where you don't need to pick thru the lumber much.
Never had an issue with the rebates.

I like Menards. Probably too much....I will always price check them and I find many times they are cheaper over Lowes, Sutherlands Lumber, and WalMart. I stock up on free hammers, free windshield wiper blades etc when the rebate covers them. I then use the rebate checks for items I need. Generally, they are very competitive on like items and for me - they are on my side of town so I don't have to go deeper into town.

•Saratoga Straights™ are produced from Lodgepole Pine and Engelmann Spruce. The high-altitude timber yields long, straight, desirable lumber.

Webster’s example of an oxymoron: Menards and quality, lol.
Their attitude, practices, ummmmmm no thanks, only as an absolute last resort.

Usually not a problem, but last week we were looking for a ceiling fan and the one my wife liked that was hanging there had a red sale tag on it for a little short of half price. The one in the box still had the full price tag on it so I asked the helper there and was informed it was the sale price. Guess what, it rang up full price, after some investigating I was informed it was the floor model only that was on sale. I took it home, but brought it back the next day,,,just because....

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

The only issue I've ever had was seeing a thermacell kit listed for $17 online and in stock. When I got to the store the kit wasn't on the shelf anymore but the various items that made the kit were still stocked. I asked an associate if they would honor the online listing but refused. Went back and forth for a little bit but wasn't getting anywhere.

I went a few aisles over...pulled my phone back out and ordered it online for in store pick up. Walked around browsing for another 1/2 hour until I got the notice it was ready. They ended up having to make it anyways.

It can really be store to store as for as helpfulness of staff.

Still waiting on a $20 some rebate from last Aug. I know all you get is a "Due Bill", that you can only spend at Menards, not a check, but the store made a BIG DEAL about how they are not affiliated with the rebate Co, and that Menards HAS NO LIABILITY, OR APPARENT INTEREST IN THE REBATES. All I have is an E-mail addy they gave me.

I use a library 'Puter and they are closed on Sun/Holidays, and I stayed home Sat because of the weather.
